#93: At the beach (Patreon)

I wanted to paint some characters at the beach!

It turned out to be a much more challenging scene than I thought it'd be. 😅 Painting a lot of characters like this makes it much harder than I hoped to get a satisfying amount of detail in each of them, so I'm probably not likely to try this again very soon, lol. Still a useful thing to experiment with though! I hope you like it.

Next up I think I wanna try to focus on something more lewd, since I feel like this picture didn't quite scratch that itch for me. I also feel like I should spend more time focusing on improving my sketching skills and making more solid foundations for my paintings, so I'll try to find more time for that too going forward.

I've felt like I've been in a little bit of a rut recently, for several life related reasons, and because of it I haven't been quite as productive and inspired as I want to be. But I guess it's to be expected sometimes, and I'm confident things will improve. Thanks for supporting me, everyone. :)

Even if it is less lewd than usual, I do really like when there are background characters doing their own thing or watching on. That relaxed swinger atmosphere really adds to some illustrations

(I apologise in advance for how long this is 😅) Goodness... where to even begin with this one! 😻😻😻😻😻 Well the colours are utterly gorgeous, the whole scene is so vibrant, as are all of the characters who each pop so vividly. I love all the gradients in colour too, like the sky which is quite warm on the far sides, with mixes of green and purple added to it. The planets in the background are lovely and I really enjoy the clouds too. The way you render them gives them this solid feel while still being nice and wispy, with multiple colours mixed in. Looking at the background scenery, your painterly style really shines here! 🥰 The rocks, tree and other foliage all pop so strongly and having such a great contrast in light and dark tones gives them a lot of detail and depth. You can really appreciate where forms overlap, where planes change and pieces of the scenery interlock and weave together, with the large rock surfaces being a great example. And I think you do such a great job of indicating detail. The birds in the sky and the far city in the background are terrific examples, it's just two tones to show light and dark but you give it enough detail to make it obvious what they are and let the viewer's imagination get to work! 😸 Various other background elements just look great too, I really like the soft, green hue on the underside of the little boat, as well as all of the detail on the table. Having the little silver cups glowing pink from the nearby drink is great and I could honestly go on and on and on about the background! There's just so much here! I'll restrain myself from going on about it but rest assured, all of those little interactions, bouncing colours and lighting and textures are all very much appreciated! Oh hey, I've finally arrived at the characters! 😹 Well much like the background objects, your use of bright lighting with dark shadows weaving through them does a fantastic job of defining all of the far away characters. The two male characters in the centre background are a really great example of this, particularly the purple guy with his pecs really popping. The human's muscles really pop too and I like the shine spots on him, making his forms pop all the more! The dark-skinned lady on the left looks so vibrant too thanks to the mix of warm yellow lighting and cool blue tones mixed into her skin. And back at the centre, you know I enjoy the purple lady 💜💜💜 Her pose and forms are so sensual and the mix of cool purples and warm pinks mixed through her looks lovely! (The blue lady looks terrific too of course and the mix of light and shadow perfectly defines her features too) For all of these background characters, they also have such terrific textures to them too! The blue lady in the middle ground who's reclining looks so beautiful too! I adore the green tint to her hair and that lovely smile on her face. Her textures too are terrific, so painterly and I love the clear definition of her plane changes and the visible brush strokes. The purple tones mixed in also pop really nicely on her blue skin and I love it! 💙💜 Finally... Talking about the closest characters to the foreground 😹 I do really like the pose for the blue guy and his dark lady friend here, the way she reaches up to hold his hand is so nice and intimate. Her pose shows off her body beautifully with the lovely curves of her arched back and rising bum, with a sensual tease of her breasts pressed into the sand. The guy looks fantastic with his mix of smooth and painterly textures defining his muscles, I also like the shine spots, purple tones mixed into him and his own subtle green tinting to his hair. The lighting on the lady looks fantastic too with the warm light bathing her upper back, contrasting so nicely with the cool shadows on her butt and front planes. I especially love her skin textures and the definition of her upper back (I don't know why, but I love the muscle that locks into her shoulders) The black-haired lady to their left is gorgeous too, her warm smile is lovely and the contrasting tones across her body are fantastic. I really love the smooth blending of tones even within the shadows on her body, with the warm sunlight on her left being such a great contrast! The mix of blue tones and warm yellows in her hair make it look so vibrant and her whole body is just so beautifully painted! It kills me to have to rush through some of these descriptions but... well, you can see how long this comment is even with me trying to address as much of this amazing painting as I can! 😹 Truly excellent work here, Calm! The piece is so beautifully vibrant and bursting with detail and I can't give enough praise to the way you've able to give so much depth to the background elements and characters. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Illustrations often reach a point where I can't be happy spending much more time on them and just have to move on. And this one got to that point before it scratched my itch for details, lol. There are still things I like about it though. 👍 I'm glad you like it too!
