Reputation came with the best pack in Sims history, Get Famous.

There are 3 types of Reputation- Bad, Neutral, and Good. These can be further boiled down into a total of 7 levels, from worst to best:

Atrocious
Awful
Bad
Neutral
Good
Great
Pristine

First, I'll go over what each of these reputation levels actually does for you.

Neutral is the baseline Sims 4 reputation. Without Get Famous, all Sims are effectively "Neutral", as installing Get Famous defaults Sims to it and there are no additional benefits or detriments to being Neutral. It's just a normal Sim.

For each stage of Reputation, assume it keeps the benefits from the previous stage. I.E. Benefits of being Good Reputation are carried over to Great and Pristine.

As your Sim's reputation increases, they will first become Good.

  • Good, Great, and Pristine Sims all get a bonus to Relationship Gain every time they do a positive Social Interaction. This gets higher with each stage of reputation, and is further increased by certain traits, and further increased by fame level. The more famous your Sim is, the more likely this happens- so very famous, very bad reputation Sims will basically always be met with love and appreciation.

  • Good, Great, and Pristine Sims all have a hidden trait- Host. These Sims get Bronze on social events, every single time, without ANY effort or activities taking place.

  • Good sims can ask others to Donate to Charity. This has a higher success chance with a good mood and gets higher the more Good Reputation your Sim has.

  • Good sims make friends (and lovers) faster with Celebrities than normal.

  • Good Reputation Sims have a 4x higher chance of convincing VIP Bouncers to let them into restricted areas.

When their reputation increases further, they will become Great.

  • Great sims can recieve phone calls asking if they can be introduced to someone. If they agree, that someone will "get their number" and call later. You'll get an instant friendship with this Sim.

  • Great Sims can be called to ask to make Donations. If they agree, they'll get a reputation boost and a fame boost. The caller will always be a Neutral or above Reputation Sim, so if your save has other Good reputation Sims, they'll likely be chosen to call for this.

  • When an Autograph is appraised, Great Sims autographs are worth 4x more. Autographs get additional value boosts for Fame Level, and even a massive boost if the autographer is a Ghost! Pristine Sims get 8x more valuable.

  • Great Reputation Sims can be set up on Blind Dates via phone call.

  • Great Reputation Sims may recieve one of many phone calls asking them to join a new career. These careers are Actor, Astronaut, Athletic, Business, Culinary, Entertainer, Gardener, Painter, Secret Agent, Social Media, Style Influencer, Tech Guru, and Writer. These calls DO NOT care what Skills your Sim has, and start your career at a higher level.

  • Great Reputation Sims are forbidden from making it rain with money from the Vault.

  • Great Reputation Sims can be invited to NPC Hosted Charity Benefit parties.

When their reputation increases further, they finally become Pristine.

  • Pristine Sims relationships decrease at half speed.

  • Pristine Sims have an aura around them that other Sims react to, cheering for how beloved they are. This aura is disabled when the Sim is called as an NPC (Vendor, etc) or is at High School. Good lookin' out, Sims team!

  • Pristine Sims can throw their own Charity Benefit parties.

Remember, all the awards carry over to the next rank up, so for Pristine Sims, they have this entire list of benefits. Additionally, all of these grant various multipliers to success of certain interactions. Things like Celebrity Hugs are more successful if your Sim has a positive reputation. This information is not exhaustive, it covers a lot.

However...if your Neutral Sim behaves poorly, they will get a Bad reputation.

  • Bad, Awful, and Atrocious Sims all get a detriment to Relationship Gain every time they do a successful Social Interaction. This gets higher with each stage of reputation, and is further increased by certain traits. However, it doesn't happen when interacting with other Bad, Awful, or Atrocious Sims, or Sims with certain negative traits. The more famous your Sim is, the more likely this happens- so very famous, very bad reputation Sims will basically always be met with distrust and distaste.

If your Sim continues to be bad, they'll advance to Awful.

  • Awful Sims can be invited to the Criminal Career. This is more likely the more Famous they are.

  • Awful Sims advance certain careers faster. This includes Smuggler Branch of Astronaut, Criminal, and the Villain Branch of Secret Agent.

  • Awful Sims can be introduced over the phone to someone "You'll get along with", on the grounds that dating must be hard since you've got a bad reputation. This date will be with a Sim who has a bad reputation, too.

  • Same goes for a new Friend.

  • Awful Sims may get a phone call asking them to hold stolen money. If they agree, they get between 750 and 1250 simoleons, and never have to give it back...but get a large drop in reputation.

  • Awful Sims may be invited to NPC hosted Lampoon Parties.

  • When an Autograph is appraised, Awful Sims autographs are worth 4x more. Autographs get additional value boosts for Fame Level, and even a massive boost if the autographer is a Ghost! Atrocious Sims get 8x more valuable.

If your Sim continues being bad, they finally become Atrocious.

  • Atrocious Sims can bribe VIP Bouncers, which will succeed more if the Bouncer is also Evil, Materialistc, Hates Kids, etc, and fail more if the bouncer is Good, Family Oriented, etc.

  • Atrocious Sims have an aura around them that other Sims react to, jeering for how hated they are. This aura is disabled when the Sim is called as an NPC (Vendor, etc) or is at High School. Good lookin' out, Sims team!

  • Atrocious Sims can throw their own Lampoon Parties.

  • Atrocious Sims can bribe their boss over the phone or computer for Work Performance increases.

Interestingly, there is no "Bad" equivalent to the job offers for Good reputation. Instead, you get benefits for the previously listed careers, and that's it.

Both Good and Bad reputations have their own benefits, and arguably not very many downsides for a bad reputation- especially if your Sim interacts largely with other bad Sims, who they'll get along fine with. Fame Perks include several options for Bad Behavior Sims, which play well with this system. These perks are LOCKED based on Reputation!

But what actually impacts Reputation?

  • The "Giving Back" Fame Perk boosts reputation gain 150%

  • The "Who's Bad?" Fame Perk boosts reputation loss 150%

  • Reputation Increases From:

    • Being seen being good

    • Releasing Fish

    • Releasing Axolotls (Lovestruck)

    • Getting a Gold Medal on a Meet and Greet as a Good celebrity

    • Having Good Friends and being Good to them

    • Being Good Friends with Animals and being Good to them

    • Graduating Early or Valedictorian (High School Years)

    • Positive Freelancer Job activities

    • Donating Money with the Giving Back fame perk

    • Donating Money in general

    • Charity Parties

    • Charity Streams from the Social Media career (City Living)

    • Treating Outbreaks as a Doctor (Get to Work)

    • Writing Conservation Articles as a Conservationist (Island Living)

    • Promoting Employees (Dine Out and Cats and Dogs)

    • Donating to the Tiger Sanctuary (For Rent)

    • Charity Chance Cards for various careers, available with Higher Reputation levels

    • Adopting Children

    • Adopting Pets (Cats and Dogs)

    • Collecting Scouting Badges (Seasons)

    • Doing All-Nighter Charity Streams from the associated Fame Perk

    • Ordering a Round of Drinks at the Bar

    • Positive responses to mourning Families as a Mortician (Life and Death)

    • Earning a GED (High School Years)

    • Using the Happy Town Hivemind on the Satellite Dish (Get to Work)

    • Enthusing about Conservationism (Island Living)

    • Performing Surgeries (Get to Work)

    • Succeeding at Volunteering (Parenthood)

    • Merely having specific traits, apparently? I'm unclear on how this one works. But Reputation is higher or lower dependign on traits.

  • Reputation Decreases From:

    • Having Children, Pets, and Horses taken away

    • Various Career Chance Card failures, or bad choices made in "Negative" careers

    • Forging things as a Freelancer

    • Getting a Gold Medal on a Meet and Greet as a bad celebrity

    • Successful Lampoon Parties

    • Making Viruses with Programming Skill

    • Getting caught cheating

    • Attempting to boost University enrollment chances by boasting about fame (Discover University)

    • Being disliked by animals

    • Making new enemies

    • Being caught stealing

    • Being caught taking blood (Vampires)

    • Being seen fighting

    • Being seen being mean

    • Using the Neighborhood Hivemind, Angry Town, Bladder Failure, or Knockout actions on the Sattelite Dish (Get to Work)

    • Pickpocketing

    • Failed PR Increasing attempts (Fame Perk)

    • Dropping Out (High School Years)

    • Blackmailing other Sims (For Rent)

    • Boasting about your University's superiority (Discover University)

    • Failing at Volunteering (Parenthood)

    • Merely having specific traits, apparently? I'm unclear on how this one works. But Reputation is higher or lower dependign on traits.

Interestingly, character values- and the interactions they afford- don't seem to impact Reputation at all. Many things I'd have expected to also don't impact it, like violent Werewolf or Vampire interactions, Alien Mind Control, pranks, etc. Mod time? Perhaps.

Aaaaaand...that's about it! Unless you wanted to know about Batuu reputation. But I don't think you did.

Tcee's World

Have you ever thought about making a Video Series out of your Waffle Explains it All posts? I bet it would be a huge hit. Thank you!

waffle_mix_ins

Each post takes about an hour and a half to make. Turning them into videos would mean going in-game and setting up scenarios to show off the biggest most meaningful examples of the process and how it works and what it does and lets you do and all that jazz, which would easily be a 3+ hour process depending on the features, including the time to let the game run and get certain things like events into position, or actively "playing" into certain scenarios. And then there's the editing...and voice over. It's too much work for how long it takes. It's a neat idea, but I already don't get paid for the effort of making the posts at all. I just can't justify the effort without a huge following that would guarantee ad revenue.

KatMum

Thank you for the info. I think it is high time I make a bad Sim.

Perfect Cyan

Could you explain what causes sims with Neutral Reputations to receive calls meant for sims with Good+ or Bad+ Reputations? When I played regularly, my sims would always get those calls, despite having a neutral reputation (mainly from having them stay in their house and create things/build skills).

waffle_mix_ins

Never seen that myself. The Sims cannot even run the chance for the calls unless they have the associated reputation trait, and then the call itself can't happen unless they have that trait. So that shouldn't be happening lol
