I'm collecting little PSAs here for functionality of these games.

THERE WILL BE BUG FIXES! IF YOU EXPERIENCE BUGS PLEASE REPORT AND/OR REPLY TO REPORTS ON THE FORUMS!

Sims 1:

  • Do not alt-tab often, or at all. Seems to cause crashes.

  • Load screens actually display the game behind them. DO NOT CLICK ON THINGS while the game is still loading!

  • Sims 1 was not really a "modded" game and mods were largely just "hacked objects". It's very, very unlikely any of these things broke for this version of the game. Custom items and clothing are likely all functional. I can confirm that the Less Decay Plant and Food Lasts a Week both by Corylea work.

  • Pressing alt-enter is supposed to adjust the pixel scaling. However, alt-enter is also the fullscreen-to-windowed switch shortcut...so this function appears to not be working correctly at the moment?

  • Sims 1 featured a load of given-away official content. The bulk of it is included! There are 3 branded items that are missing: A McDonalds kiosk, a Pepsi Machine, and an Intel computer. You can get them here. They go in the downloads folder in your install location.

  • For a good starter set of CC and mods, check this video. The creator has checked the mods in Legacy and so far reports no problems, although that doesn't mean every mod is actually working as intended. But they aren't causing issues! Installing them is a long process and difficult so read the instructions. Mod Packs are typically frowned upon for The Sims games but as this one is no longer in real development, its safer to use one.

  • Sims 1 typically stores your data in the install folder, in the UserData folders. Each UserData folder represents one of the game's neighborhoods. Legacy has moved this to Users/YourUsername/SavedGames/ElectronicArts! This means if you install anyone elses houses, neighborhoods, families for the sim bin, etc, they have to go in these folders, and the game won't read from the main install folders! So if you're grabbing any old stuff, the instructions will be sending you to the wrong place.

Sims 2:

My mod tracker is unecessary as a group on MTS has done significantly more work here. You can download the missing pack content here, courtesy of HugeLunatic. You can also get the missing Store content here.

  • DISABLE ONE DRIVE. DISABLE ONE DRIVE. DISABLE ONE DRIVE. One Drive causes so many problems for games- for Sims 2, it appears to be the cause (usually) of Sims literally just up and disappearing.

  • Custom Skintones DO NOT WORK. The Skin selector menu for custom skintones cannot be exited! You can access them from a premade sim, but applying them basically breaks CAS entirely. DEFAULT REPLACEMENTS do work just fine.

  • Gunmod's Radiance Lighting and Scriptorium do work in Sims 2 Legacy! HOWEVER! Installing the Scriptorium places the files in the wrong places. Using the Scriptorium Installer will place a TSData folder in your C:/ drive. Move it to InstallLocation/Base, where you'll find the default TSData folder. Allow it to overwrite. Then, in the EA Games Documents folder, there will be a loose Downloads folder. Move it into the Sims 2 Legacy folder. To use CUSTOM WALLS TYPES, MODULAR STAIRS, etc handled by Scriptorium, their Packages go in your Downloads folder, and their .txt files go in their associated TSData/Res/Catalog/Scripts/Scriptorum_XXX folders! You can install both of these with this installer.

  • Sims 2 Legacy will crash on creating your first family, EVERY TIME! Your Family will be saved to the Sim Bin and will not be lost. After that it appears to be fine.

  • Sims 2 saves on moving between lots. If you experience crashes, this is something of a soft autosave system.

  • Userstartup.cheat is functional. You can use PleasantSims' as a baseline.

  • Community Time Project unfortunately appears to be broken with this version of the game. Installing it doesn't seem to hurt anything but it will not function at all. HOWEVER, TimeSync Beta by LazyDuchess, which makes time work Sims 4 style, DOES function!

  • RPC and associated ASI mods CAN NOT be used at present. The RPC installer relies on the player using a cracked EP9.exe but this is not compataible with this version of the game, whatsoever. It will need an update to work at all. When it does work, it will likely be harmful to install the 4GB Patch.

  • CC relying on Ikea Stuff will not work unless you've installed it from the link above.

Didn't it JUST come out? ...and you're already on this?! Thanks for keeping us informed!

Edit: Apparently Denuvo having a negative impact on performance is a "dumbass #gamer conspiracy theory," whatever, but it turns out to have been a tagging error on Steam's part rather than actually being included so I jumped the gun anyway.

waffle_mix_ins

"Denuvo makes games run like shit" is a repeatedly debunked bullshit conspiracy theory that has been proven time and time and time and time and time and time and time and time again to mean 1fps drops max for a vast, vast majority of games. Please do not spread dumbass hashtag gamer conspiracy theories on my attempts to be informative and helpful, thank you!

You Rock! I have a working version of Sims 2 on an old computer and still buying this as it gives me some security I will have a working Sims 2. I am not all that attached to Sims 1 TBH. Respect it of course and the OG!!

Guuurl

Weird, mine hasn't crashed yet! (sims 2) thanks for the info though, good to know about skin tones!!

andi_paradise

Not sure if anyone tested that out: In my Sims 2 Legacy game scripted events and event video sequences are not really working or seems to be broken... any experiences?

waffle_mix_ins

Videos definitely work as I've heard. I haven't actually "played" yet to see if the npc intros do but I haven't seen anything.

Can you download and install houses for Sims 2? If so, where do you put the download folder?

waffle_mix_ins

Houses are usually in Sims2Pack format which you should install with the Sims 2 Pack Clean Installer. It needs to be directed to the new folders or it won't do it right, though.

Where do i put the files as far as downloading the missing game packs and such?? Just my downloads or?
