The core gameplay loop of The Sims has always been to start off poor, struggle to make ends meet, get those ends to start meeting, make more money as a result of improved skills and career performance, get better furniture to have an easier time at work and making friends and leveling skills, and snowballing all those things- against the threat of rising bills from buying more furniture. It's a really good loop. Tiny Living flies in the face of all of that.

I'm sure you can tell by my hundreds of existing mods that I play The Sims as a game for the most part and I enjoy the rules-and-structure-and-goals part of the game. One that especially goes well with this one and its theme is More Money, More Motives, which makes cheaper items do less for motives, and more expensive items do more.

But that's still not enough. I want to reward having more money!

So here comes LARGE LIVING!

Large Living is a replacement for Tiny Home gameplay. It is not a new venue type- it replaces the Tiny Home venue type. If you want to play on a tiny home, you should be able to just remove the mod and replace it as needed. The only thing that will happen is your mansions will complain they are too big to be a tiny home when removed, and your tiny homes will complain they are too small to be a mansion when installed. No big deal!

There are 3 Tiers of Lot: Manor, Mansion, and Megamansion.

Manors are between 800 and 1000 Tiles.

Mansions are between 1000 and 1250 Tiles.

Megamansions are anything over 1250 Tiles.

Vlad's house in Forgotten Hollow is 1,094 Tiles, so it would count as a Mansion. The Spencer Kim Lewis' newly renovated premade house is shockingly 1,756 Tiles! So it counts as a Megamansion, as does Judith Ward's house, at a whopping 1,926 Tiles. The Bailey-Moon house is over 2,000 tiles, but that's because they cheated and have a flat roof that uses up nearly 500 tiles. Can't stop that kind of cheating unfortunately. Meanwhile, homes like the newly renovated Goth Manor? That one's shockingly only 649 tiles. It's not big, it's tall. So it doesn't even reach Manor status. But the one across the street is nearing 900 tiles, and counts as a proper Manor. Maybe the Goths could get away with adding a basement!

So what are the benefits of a Large Living home?

The bigger the house, the more perks. Only difference: None of these reduce bills, and instead, they each have a downside.

Manor-

  • Happy, Inspired, and Focused buffs last twice as long!

  • Materialistic and Snob Sims, who own the lot, will often get a +2 Confident Moodlet here, if City Living is installed.

  • The "Peace and Quiet" Lot Trait if Jungle Adventure is installed, which removes Tense buffs on entering the lot and makes books increase skills faster.

Mansion-

  • Happy, Inspired, and Focused buffs last twice as long!

  • Object comfort is increased!

  • Plants grow twice as fast! (Requires this EA Bug Fix!)

  • Spooky! Mansions attract ghosts if City Living is installed.

  • BURGLARS ARE MORE COMMON!

Megamansion-

  • Happy, Inspired, and Focused buffs last twice as long!

  • Skills increase a 2x speed!

  • Object comfort is increased!

  • Relationship gains are doubled!

  • Plants grow twice as fast! (Requires this EA Bug Fix!)

  • These are automatically a "Private Dwelling", which unfortunately will also deter your friends from showing up autonomously. They can still be invited! But they're intimidated! So are solicitors.

  • BURGLARS ARE MORE COMMON!

If you are familiar with Tiny Homes you know there's one big change here- Plant growth speed used to be exclusive to Tier 1, and Skill 2x speed used to start at Tier 2. For mansions, I swapped these around a bit. Plant growth speed now starts at Tier 2, and 2x skills are exclusive to the biggest builds. This makes way more sense IMO. This makes a Megamansion a REALLY valuable asset- not only does the generational wealth help your family's future, but merely living here boosts their head start even further, whether they're living off the land or gunning for a high-paying CEO position.

If Sims are Materialistic or Snobs, they'll have a 50/50 shot of getting the "Only the Finest" moodlet, from the "Pricey" lot trait. This is actually a modified version of a hidden and unused City Living apartment trait, so you'll only see it if you have City Living.

Anything Else?

Yes, actually!

All tiny home related buffs and interactions, like "brag about having a tiny home", have been altered to now be about big homes!

There's two known issues: The display for the number of required tiles is odd because it's not meant to be used this way or have this big of numbers.

The display will tell you current number of tiles/maximum number of tiles allowed for the tier, but each one cuts off. The last one is 10,000. You can still easily tell which tier you're at, and the main banner will tell you exactly what the numbers are.

Secondly, if you don't own City Living or Jungle Adventure, those lot traits will still appear in the panel. Bafflingly, they seem to still have their icons and text even though you don't own the pack. But they won't do anything, it's just a visual difference.

Note that if you use any Tiny Home modifying mods, like those by Kuttoe, their compatibility is not guaranteed. Mods that adjust the lot traits that are not part of Tiny Living will work with this mod, as I have not altered those lot traits. But mods altering the existing Tiny Home behavior are likely incompatible, especially anything modifying Tier 2, as Tier 2 has been overwritten by this mod.

This mod overrides:

venue_residential_tinyhome
buff_ZoneModifiers_TinyHome_Tier_2
buff_ZoneMod_ProCon_Pricey_Visible
Several string tables for Tiny Home stuff
