Farting - Waffle Explains It All (Patreon)

Farting is a game mechanic in The Sims 4. It covers a variety of scenarios and impacts a few things in your Sim's life, and can come from a few sources.

Sources of Farting include:
- Bad Manners (character value)
- Eating Franks and Beans
- Being a Slob
- A self-interaction under the "Be Gross..." pie menu
- Taunting another Sim when playing Basketball
- The "Noxious Cloud" mischief interaction
- Being a Toddler
- Being relaxed during a Massage on the Massage Table
- Getting a Tattoo done while on your stomach
- Stink Potions from the children's Science Table
- Having the Feud Bringer Fame Perk available with a Bad Reputation (allows this interaction on a Sim you've started a Feud with regardless of Mischief Skill)

When a Sim eats Franks and Beans they are given a hidden buff that causes constant autonomous farting. If a Sim farts while their bladder motive is below 25% full, they will have an accident and get a buff for it, while filling Bladder and emptying Hygiene.

If a Sim farts while doing an Interior Decorator job with Dream Home Decorator, they get points towards a hidden bad behavior score that can impact how well their job goes.

When a Sim farts near other sims, their reaction is dependent on some traits. Childish sims tend to think they are funny. Sims with Good Manners don't like them at all. Sims you are Friends with may think it's funny too, since they know you as a friend. If your Sim has the Feud Bringer fame perk and farts on the Sim they have declared a Feud with, it increases their relationship, I guess? Why does it do that

Children lose character values for farting, and Adults can discipline them for it. Bad Manners is a potential result of poor character values, and will make a Sim fart autonomously at times.

Farting is one of very few things in the game that generate a "smell" response from Sims, including low hygiene, Mascots who have been hit with Stink Spray due to University Affiliation Rivalries, dirty diapers, stinky pets, and sabotaged Sauna rooms.

When a Sim drinks a Stink Potion from a science table they get knocked out from farting. The buff for this is titled "Knocked Out" in game, and declares "Some things are worth sleeping through". The internal name for this buff is "Fartisan".
