The Yoda Questionnaire, a collection of easy to answer questions about personal STAR WARS preferences has been an RFR staple for almost 2 decades. RFR V.I.P. Scott St. Louis has taken the concept up a notch with "The Yaddle Questionnaire" - A series of slightly more complicated questions about not only personal preferences, but more wide ranging and introspective. Scott reveals what the questions are on this all-new Q&A! Plus, we continue to discuss a subject from last week's Q&A: The Psychology of Fandom. And we also discuss THE ACOLYTE, Star Wars Galaxy's Edge and Scott's now-famous spiked Blue Milk!

Glad this dropped…. I was looking at a long silent boring week of nothing to listen to!

Scott St. Louis

Eric, thank you so much for sharing your responses! it was great to include input from fellow VIPs!

Turtle Wars

Great discussion Scott! Thanks for sharing a little bit more about yourself/profession. Perfect timing prior to your visit. You had some good answers Jimmy, very relatable.

Jeremy J. Lanning

Great job! I just caught that I didn’t do the Yaddle! My bad.

Nathan Wenzel

Looking forward to listening to this!! What a great idea

Ben P. Stein

Great listening before tonight’s after show! Enjoyed the entire program, including learning about Scott’s profession, which I greatly appreciate (hospice chaplains and staff provided great comfort to my family and me when we lost my mom and aunt in recent years), as well as the new questionnaire. Speaking of Yaddle, she plays a not insignificant role in the recent SW novel The Living Force by John Jackson Miller, which I thought was pretty good.

Scott St. Louis

I hope your experience with hospice was a positive one. It is a privilege to be with families during the sacred time. I would love to hear your responses to the questionnaire. Would you mind sharing them here in the chat? I appreciate your review on the new novel. I’ve been thinking about grabbing the audiobook as I leave on vacation and now you have talked me into it!

Ben P. Stein

Hi Scott! Yes, the experience with hospice was so positive. My aunt (a retired nun) passed away more than a year ago (I was very close to her) and I'm still getting calls and letters from the chaplain checking in with my family and me! I listened to the audiobook version myself and really enjoyed the performance in addition to the text. I hope you enjoy it and I would love to hear what you think! I'll put my answers to the Yaddle questionnaire in a separate reply. Thanks for encouraging me to do it!

Ben P. Stein

My answers to the Yaddle questionnaire: 1-Toy--the Darth Vader TIE fighter; my older brother suspended it via wires from the ceiling in our bedroom so that it was hanging in the air. 2-Important collectible--our dad got us the Marvel Star Wars #1 comic book in 1977, and bestowed it to my brother after he passed. I recently learned that my brother sold it when he needed some funds. (What was he thinking?!?!?) 3-Experience that left me disappointed--when I watch The Phantom Menace for the first time and I saw Jar Jar come onscreen, I said to myself, "Oh no..." and had a sinking feeling that lasted for much of the film... I've grown to like Ep. 1 more and more over the years. 4-Introduction—Watching Ep 1-6 on video at home with my kid and two stepsons and then sharing Star Wars experiences with them through LEGO, video games, and the sequel trilogy. 5-Life Lesson: A huge one for me is the Dagobah cave. Whenever I get angry, even when I think I'm right, the anger will inevitably boomerang back to me and affect me in a negative way. I usually think of the Dagobah cave whenever I find myself getting angry. 6-Better person—Star Wars reminds me that we can make moral choices every day, and our choices have consequences. 7-What it means to me today—Star Wars enriches my daily life. The shared experience of discussing the movies with others, and dissecting and enjoying the new content together is so much fun. In the RFR community, I feel like I'm connecting with many other fans who would have been my friends while growing up had I known them back then. Let me know if I missed any questions or didn't correctly interpret them as I will be happy to add/edit my answers above!

Ben P. Stein

Thanks, Scott. That first question brought back memories of the TIE fighter. We didn’t collect the Kenner toys but I now recall this was the MPC model kit that my brother assembled and painted.

Kenny

Scott. I'd love to answer. Can you just jot down the questions? I listened and Loved your podcast. I just don't remember every question. Bravo btw. Really enjoyed this Q&A!

Tanya S

1. Fave collectible: Santa Cruz Boba Fett skateboard deck 2. Importance as an adult: the amazing fan base and the music 3. Disappointing experience: Jar-Jar Binks 4. Meaningful way of sharing: recommended Rebels to a friend one day and now all we do is talk about the Wars 5. Life lesson: perseverance 6. How SW made me a better person: When I don't want to get out of bed, I think, "what would Captain Rex do?" and I get out of bed to start the day! 7. Why SW means so much to me today: makes me feel like a kid again! Thank you, Scott!

Scott St. Louis

Yaddle Questionaire 1. What Star Wars toy did you play with most as a child? (If you discovered SW in childhood). What is your favorite Star Wars collectible? 2. Why is Star Wars important to you as an adult? 3. What Star Wars experience (show movie toy) left you disappointed? 4. What is a meaningful way that you have shared Star Wars with someone else? 5. What is a lesson in life that you have learned from Star Wars? 6. How has Star Wars or being a Star Wars fan made you a better person? 7. Why does Star Wars mean so much to you today?

Scott St. Louis

I love your What would Rex do? Though I think on some days he’d rest up and go fishing for Joopas! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Eric from Phoenix

Dang. Stinks that your broth sold the comic. Is still haven’t bought a #1 for my collection. Maybe at the toy show tomorrow.

Kenny

I'm a O.Ger here so here's my answers: Fave toy: Darth Vader/Han Solo action figures. Why is it important to me as a adult: I Loved it as a kid. Love it now. Reminds me of my childhood so much. (I miss the 70s 😢) Star wars that Left me disappointed: jar jar was just too silly. A meaningful way I have shared star wars with someone: my son. Took him to prequels and we seen everyone together since then. Lesson I've learned: luke believing in his father. Love no matter what. How has star wars made me a better person: I'm still trying...I'll let you know when I find out. Lol Why does star wars mean so much to me today: it's a reminder. It reminds me every time I see it, that I was lucky enough to grow up with star wars and in the 70s...star wars was BIG. I look back at those times and remember it being such a happy time in my childhood. Maybe why I get so frustrated with some of the new stuff. That was fun! Thanks Scott St. Louis!!!

RobO from ChicagO

Can’t believe you were a Cubs fan Jimmy, YOUR BREAKING MY HEART.

Rebel Force Radio

Growing up in Northbrook made things difficult for a young Sox fan, but I did like both teams until 1981-82. Then I chose a side.

Super episode guys! Thanks for sharing J Mac & what a super lot of questions from Scott! Really got me thinking about my fandom. Which is no bad thing. 👏🏼

Trevor Hallam

Finally finished this episode, and wow, what a good one! Scott I loved the way you ended it. No one can ever take away those experiences. Well said.

Eric from Phoenix

Awesome time guys! Thanks for letting me participate in the questionare Scott. A bleeding kyber drink, I love it! We found a Jedi Mind Trick recipe and tried it. Not bad and about 98% the same as at Ooga’s. Great discussion on “messing with what is precious”. I thought that was spot on. Also great comparison with your favorite sports team and how they don’t win every game. I need to be a marketing person for non-drowsy Bonine. We take it roughly an hour before getting on rides and I can do them multiple times all day with no issues. Great for keeping your head from getting scrambled. My brother and I took Star Wars figures on vacation too. On one trip to PA we left the carrying case in the back window and a blue crayon melted around Lando. He looked like he was frozen in carbonite.

Jeff Holland

Scott - hope it's not too late to comment on your VIP Q&A (and I hope you see this!). Yes, I know - I'm WAY late on listening to this episode. I just can't keep up with all the Q&As because there are so many (which is a good thing). Finally got around to listening, and here goes: Before I answer the Yaddle Questionnaire, I must admit I listened to this episode on my way to see an Aunt who just started hospice care (at her home). So I was touched on many of things you said about your work in hospice care, etc. I did have a good cry (or two) while driving in my car listening to this episode. Back to the Yaddle thing... 1. Fav SW toy? Definitely the Millenium Falcon back in the late 1970s. I curse myself that I didn't keep any of my SW toys, figures, spaceships from the 70s/80s. I would have loved to kept the MF. (Side note: I wish HasLab's next SW project would be to do a MF (maybe not the EXACT same as the toy from the 70s, but something like it. If they did, they can have all my money.) 2. Was a little foggy on what actually question #2 was (fav SW collectible or if you didn't discover SW, what would be your fav collectible). So, I'll answer both. SW - I would have to say mt TPM teaser poster (the one with Anakin with Vader's shadow). I'm a SW poster guy and I just loved that teaser poster. Simple yet very cool and foreboding. And I got the 27x40 version of the poster (not the typical 24x36 version). It's proudly framed and hanging in my manroom/office. Sadly, though I know I will never have enough wall space to put up all my SW posters. Fav Non-SW collectible? I'd have to see either the 1st drumstick Lars Ulrich gave me or the 1st wristband that James Hetfield gave me. As some may know, my love for Metallica equals my love for SW. I'm not sure exactly when I got my 1st drumstick or wristband but I'd say it was some time in late 1990s. 3. Why is SW impt to me as an adult? Several reasons - when I saw ANH in theaters I was immediately a superfan and I haven't stopped since. I love the story and world that GL created, and I've loved the SW movies/live action shows/animated shows (for the most part). And it reminds me of that feeling the fortunate ones of us that got to experience the OT in the movie theaters. Nostalgia? maybe... but I don't want to ever lose that feeling of being a kid. 4. What SW event/etc left you disappointed? 2 things - leaving the theater after watching The Last Jedi for the 1st time in theaters. My typical MO for new SW movies, was to watch it on opening day, next day in IMAX, watch it again on Sat and then 1 more time on Sunday. S0, 4x that opening weekend. After my 1st viewing, I did not want to go see it anymore which I didn't. It's still the only SW movie in which I've only seen it 1x in theaters. 2nd, getting a picture and autograph from Peter Mayhew at SWC in 2012. I don't hold too much of a grudge with Peter because I knew at the time he was dealing with health issues, walking with a cane, etc. but he didn't say one word to me. Not. one. word. But like I said, I don't hold too much of a grudge since he is one with The Force. 5. What meaningful way have I shared SW? Like many of us, I've shared SW with my kids. While their reaction to it wasn't as immediate as mine was (at the same age) - and thats okay - nevertheless, the act of getting to share it with them was very special to me. 6. Life lesson learned from SW? You must first believe in whatever you're doing or you will fail at it. When Yoda used The Force to get Luke's X-Wing out of the swamp and Luke said, "I don't... I don't believe it." Yoda replied, "That is why you fail." That scene (and pretty much everything Yoda says to Luke during his training) just hits home with me. I'm sure when I first saw ESB as a young kid, that lesson flew right over my head, but later on in life, that scene Godsmacks me everytime. 7. How has SW made you a better person? To be more accepting of other people's views about SW (a particular movie or show or character). Not everyone will like or dislike the same things I do (in the world of SW). And that's okay. I let stuff (especially stuff I see online/social media) roll off my back moreso the last 10+ years. 8. Why does SW mean so much to me today? Other than my relationship with my immediate family (parents, sis), my relationship with SW is going on 47 years! Nothing can compare to the longevity that I have with SW. It's been a dear friend of my mine almost my entire life. And the feeling I get when watching SW/thinking of SW/listening to RFR/etc just takes me back to those days during the OT when I was a kid. And I think that's a feeling worth fighting for and remembering and cherishing. :)
