I have listened many times to the portion of the ROTS audiobook at question here, and when Yoda's thoughts reveal that "the jedi master knew that he had not been mistaken" leaves nothing open to interpretation at all. This is the moment that the force ghost ability begins in my opinion. Without this moment, we have no other way of explaining how Yoda even knew that it was possible. In fact this section of the book even speaks to the fact that what he heard is not possible to hear, YET, he KNEW that he heard it. Regardless... what a great voicemail! Two episodes with dedicated content to one great question!

If Ewan McGregor would have seen me and my brother after the Phantom Menace came out. Ages 5 and 6. Watching it over and over on our VHS tapes. One of us acting as Quigon and the other Obiwan. Saying all the lines verbatim. Fighting over who gets to be Obiwan. He would never have wanted to step away from stars. Two kids using plastic hockey sticks as lightsabers. To this day our wives have to warn us not to say the lines along with the movie or they will shut it off. It’s one of my favorite childhood memories was the Phantom Menace.
