I’ve been waiting for this one! Thanks again for all you do. Merry Christmas All!

As a Kentuckian, I thought the Canto Bight part was Nothing more than Berating Horse Racing! In a lot of cases, Thoroughbreds are valued more than People, and live in Million+ Dollar Barns. Canto Bight Fathier are No different! They show Scarring/Bleeding while being whipped, which is an Extreme Exaggeration!

Hux has shown he isn't the brightest bulb in the beginning conversation you don't like- might be why we're shown Hux has questionable strategic thinking about the chase. Rose "rises"to the occasion and teaches Finn about the suffering in the galaxy and makes him willing to fight not just for his own interests, not just for Rey's interests, but now for the Rebellion- that's the point of Canto Bight. Also it shows us that seeming failure may leave behind sparks of hope that ignite later- broomboy. DJ shows Finn that it is immoral to not pick a side. Not picking a side leads to suffering that could be prevented. Finn goes from only caring about Rey to being willing to give his life for the cause. One of the most important themes in this movie is heroes. Why is someone a hero, do we have unreasonable expectations for them? Can you be the hero that you are searching for? If you make a correct choice and have a good intentions you can be a hero- be a piece of the puzzle that brings ultimate victory. This movie asks hard questions about what is a hero? What is failure? What do we do when we fail? What I had to do was stop trying to tell a better story and start asking why they chose what they did and answer the questions that necessarily follow. This movie is a love story to SW fans. You have to grieve the story you wanted and then you can fall in love with the story we got. Rian is a fan and a smart man- there's so much more there than the surface story.

I predict much more love for TLJ from Kyle in his next visit. So glad there's intelligent discussion to listen to about this movie. Thanks RFR!

Leia scene is supposed to be a nod to Han in carbonite IMO

Kyle Newman and I are on the exact same page. I wasn’t thrown by the story beats of TLJ, I was thrown by the movie’s self-awareness. I think ultimately I’ll come around and appreciate the multitude of beautiful character moments in TLJ, but it’s been tough for me to reconcile it with my expectations of how a Star Wars story is presented cinematically.

I thought FJ was famous for dropping F-bombs on air. ;) Finn learned that you fight FOR a thing, not against a thing. It took all of that to get it through his head. Poe learned that a Pyrrhic victory is no victory at all. It took all of that to get that through HIS head as well. Ithink it's refreshing that the big desperate plan didn't work for once.

Brian Frith

In my opinion, Kyle’s points are very well made. I feel very torn over TLJ now. I love it, I hate it, I’m indifferent. Wow! Conflicted, I am. Interesting thoughts and opinions on this show. Really good to have an informed and intelligent review of the film. Happy Christmas guys!

I keep saying that this movie is Rian sending us into our own cave on Dagobah. What's in there is what you take with you. Start with the premise of do you believe Rian Johnson is a smart person, a filmmaker who makes choices based on story and character- not shock value? If you believe he is, then there must be more to why the story goes the way it does. There must be meaning behind the beats that isn't readily apparent. What's brilliant is the questions the film raises will haunt you until you start to figure it out.

Yes! I can listen at work this morning with plenty of time to spare before I leave for an extra long weekend!

Rebel Force Radio

Great feedback so far guys! Quick favor to ask before we launch the show everywhere...Did I miss any swearing beeps? I know there’s an S-bomb from Kyle that I missed. Any others? - JMac

Brian Frith

I didn’t miss any others. I’ll take another listen.

Sunscryer

I didn't catch any unbeeped. I love that he promised swear-free. That lasted about a minute. Btw, Leia left the gold dice behind on purpose for Ben to find.

Scott Armstrong

After The Force Awakens, I didn't know what they would do with Finn or Poe. Rian Johnson didn't know either. LOVED everything else in TLJ.

Scott Armstrong

If Johnson FU'd JJ, will JJ's Episode 9 be an FU to Johnson? Ooh, the drama!

Michael Nipp

Great Episode! I for one would love an uncensored Kyle and FJ for Patreon. Give us the option to download that one.

I think I figured out one of the story decisions that people didn't like. Why, they ask, didn't the Admiral just tell Poe the plan from the start? It would have saved so much time and effort! From her perspective, how would telling him help anything? It wouldn't occur to her that there was the possibility of some half cocked plan that could be hatched. So why not tell him if that wouldn't change anything? Because Poe needed to learn his place. He needed humbling. She was telling him, "you haven't earned the right to be part of the decision making. You don't get to know the whole picture." The worst that would happen, as she saw it, was that he would fume and rage but be powerless to do anything about it. Then, when he discovered the plan organically, he would realize that he could trust the people in charge. It would have been a good learning experience for him and no one would get hurt.

Brian Frith

Random thought. I understand why Luke and Han just ran away and hid. They wouldn’t have run away from the fight or the resistance because they both jumped in head first into the Rebellion all those years before. This time the fight hits too close to home. The war now involves Han losing his son in the worst way possible way to the dark side, by the failure of his close friend Luke. He did what anyone who’s totally lost and unable to cope would do, he left. Luke’s reasons for wanting to hide and die on a secluded island should be obvious. He let his friend, Sister and nephew down. I can understand why he wanted to leave and never be found again. Regret is a powerful feeling and can make you want to forget everything that you hold dear. This is, in my opinion why The Last Jedi is a good film. It’s not perfect, but what is? Kyle and FJ have come up with excellent points during this show. Thanks again. Cheers

They are going to use Luke's EU arc for Rey. Rey will leed the new Jedi, and end up being the most powerful character in cannon. I agree with Kyle they should have explained Snoke, but two lines would have been enough. Snoke is a place holder. The Canto part did drag. The only way it pushed the narrative was DJ telling the first order he over heard Poe tell Finn they are landing transports on Crate. This lead to the battle of Crate and the final show down. I think fans do not like this because its weird. Johnson make weird/indie movies. I half expected strange going into this. Star Wars is the ultimate popcorn blockbuster, and I think a lot of people use to this were left scratching their heads. People use to blockbuster are not use to strange movies for better or worse. The story does need to break from the past at some point. Everyone cannot be related to someone previous. The movie needs to move forward. In attack of the clones having the clone template be related to a minor character from the previous movies was too fan servicey. The galaxy seemed small. If Star Was is to grow something like this had to happen. If the saga cannot survive this change then people will move on. Rehashing old story plots like TFA did will run thin too. We will see. If the next few films are not good Disney will move on, and Star Wars will stop moving forward and will be a static story line, and nostalgia. I bet Disney will play it safe, and the next film will be a paint by the number Star Wars pop corn film, and will do little to challenge. ROTJ was a standard pop corn movie after the strange ESB.

Sunscryer

The Canto part didn't drag for me, although I thought the ride through town was Disney cartoonesque silly. To answer your questions, FJ, that sequence was necessary because Finn needed to learn a lesson: that failing to take a stand against a clear evil is amoral (though not necessarily immoral). He saw the logical extension of that path with DJ's sellout. DJ wasn't evil - he simply didn't have stakes in the game, so saw neither side as particularly more righteous than the other.
