There was a question on twitter about ads on RFR. I’ve addressed this before, but it’s worth repeating. Our goal of 600 patrons for ad-free shows was reached briefly last summer. We went ad-free for a long time. even on months we were well under 600. We've only been able to maintain 600 a little more steadily the over last couple of months. Because of our amazing Patreon support, we have not been searching out new ad deals and we cancelled a contract renewal with an agency that was placing up to three ads per show. We are leaving a lot of ad money on the table. Audible was our very first client, going back to 2008. They reached out at the beginning of the year and we have a deal with them to place ads on a few shows this year. They have shown us support for a long time so we didn't want to turn them away. And there might be a few more clients like that to drop ads on the show this year. But not many. We are keeping ads very limited and not often. BTW...The plug for the SW Lamps on last week’s show is not paid advertising. It’s a favor for a friend who has overstock and is practically giving them away.

I think you guys are doing a great job here! Listener-supported, value-for-value is the way to go. More people need to jump on the Patreon because it's a great value even at the the $1/mo level. Compare the the amount of value you get every week from RFR to going to the movies or what you pay for streaming services - it's a great value that you're giving away so play that up on the show and ask for more people to join us!

Thanks, as usual, for your transparency here. I don't mind a couple of occasional ads here and there to help pick up the slack if the Patreon isn't always coming through. And I also appreciate that you guys aren't in this to make a bunch of money, but just want to show your love for Star Wars. Keep up the great work, and thanks again for keeping us informed.

Jimmy- don’t even worry about it. The value and content you guys bring here on Patreon goes beyond just being “ad free” on the main show. If that’s the primary reason someone is a member on here, that’s confusing to me. Personally I joined because I love what you guys do, you constantly bring me value, and I want to make sure you have the tools to continue to do so for years to come. If that means throwing in a couple ads here and there, that’s fine.

To add: The promotions/ ads you do run are relevant to me and are not intrusive. If I’m being honest, when I first started listening to you guys, I was impressed by the brands that were advertising with you. Nissan, Audible, and so on. As a new listener it added credibility in a sense to the podcast. Big brands don’t align themselves with armatures. Ads do more than just bring in revenue.

I have no problem with you guys running ads on your shows. Obviously, the more Patreons there are the less you need advertisers. This a free market enterprise so you guys do what you have to do to keep the show healthy.

I said it a week or so ago, or whenever that post on Patreon tiers was...it's buried now...it really shows what a posting tear Jimmy's been on as of late lol....but I'd rather have an advertisement a show, knowing that the show is in a healthy place financially. I understand that people don't want to listen to a show riddled with ads, but I think its better to keep options open. The more revenue streams the better. I've been listening to you guys for over 10 years and the show just keeps getting better. Just in the last year I finally bought an RFR hoody and shirts for me and my wife. I'd buy more too if more designs were available. Love'n it guys, keep up the good work!

I think you should run all the ads you can. Listener support is a great way to supplement ad income and take you to the next level of doing what you want to do with RFR, but I don’t begrudge anyone for getting the most out of the work they put in. You guys deserve deserve all the advertising dollars you can get. It’s not like Patreon is offering nothing to us patrons for supporting you. All the extra content is what we get for supporting you. On the main show I say you run as many ads as you can without feeling like you’re taking away from the show. Also, in my opinion live reads are always fun when it comes to ads.

Kirk Leppert

Ads never bothered me. I just skip through them. If ads make you guys more money, I say go for it!

Timmy Barrow

Well said Steve...Jimmy and Jason should not feel bad, or that they are letting us down by running ads. Get what you deserve guys. Make that money baby!

Donald B Groce

Adds or no adds it just does not matter to me.

Charles Cornett

I would hope that Patreon would allow Jimmy and Jason to pick the right ads. Ads that we want to hear. The Nissan Rogue One ad was awesome. I would have been disappointed that I didn't hear that one. Audible. Giving us a taste of Star Wars books. Taking ads about unrelated items that take us out of the vibe of the Fandom would be a mistake. TBH dollar for dollar, when you take into account the YouTube flood of content, the weekly show, the drive show, the Q&A, and the Christmas shows and so forth, RFR support is a bargain. Thanks guys!

John Riley

Great to see RFR ad free so you can show those other podcasts that you guys rule the roost! Showm how it’s dun! But I’m fine with ads...get it while you can.

Daniel Allinson

I don’t mind the odd advert here and there, even if most of them aren’t relevant for me (UK listener here). Do what you feel is right for the show! I’ll certainly continue to support you.

Windows!

Ads don’t bother me, get them while you can , I can sit through 30 seconds of ads. You guys are amazing , Jimmy, Jason and Billy keep up what your doing !

James johnson

Get all the ads you can, get all the patreon support you can. Quit your jobs and give us daily shows! Lol just kidding but seriously I think we all want you guys to make as much money as possible with RFR

John Andrews

As long as the show is healthy from a fiscal sense I don't mind the ads.

Jeff Carney

I don't mind the ads. I joined Patreon to thank you for 12 years of being entertained every week more than anything else. A few minutes of ads in a 2 hour show is no big deal.

Dan Loisell

My house and collection are paid for with ads (I work for Turner Broadcasting) so I'm never one to complain! Keep up the great work!!

Isaac Alexander

If you need ads, bring them back permanently. Had no issues with them before. They help you create more content and keep existing content flowing so I’m all in.
