Howard Chaykin was the artist for the very first STAR WARS comic book, Marvel Comics "Star Wars #1" released in 1977. Howard talks to us about the challenge creating the book due to the fact he didn't see one second of the film while drawing the adaptation. Howard also talks bluntly about his work in the comic, it's appeal among fans, and his general distain for the book and his weak earnings from it.

In light of his recent comments it would appear he hasn't changed his opinion. What a shame.

That had to be painful. Great job, Jimmy, with a semi-unwilling participant. His tune hasn’t changed at all if his recent remarks are indicative. Where was this? I assume 2012 based on context. Was it at CVI?

Chicago 2009. His recent remarks are what made me revisit this interview. I never spoke before with an artist who crapped all over his own work. I found myself rushing thru the interview a little bit. Didn't need to get to psychological with him...Felt like I was picking at a scab...And he made his thoughts crystal clear so I really didn't need to keep probing. I remember I was surprised by his attitude.

I love have these bite size bits drop on my feed. They are the perfect length for a shave. Keep em coming Jimmy!

What an arrogant jerk! Great job Jimmy Mac

Alexander Gates

Agreed, that was harsh and painful. Amazing you got as many answers out of him as you did!

Matt Rashid

Well handled, Jimmy. Oof. He didn’t make your job easy at all.

Dang! I actually got kinda tensed up listening to this interview for some reason. Kinda discouraging to hear he was just in it for the money.... Thankfully there are alot more passionate people out there who illustrate Star Wars that we can really sit down and talk good Star Wars with. But at least he was honest. Anyways, good job Jimmy keeping the interview going as well as it could go!
