In our last weekly show before the release of STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER, we review the media hype surrounding it with audio highlights from cast and crew interviews, talk show appearances, and media junkets. We hear from J.J. Abrams, Chris Terrio, Daisy Ridley, and more. We discuss and debate the “End of the Skywalker Saga” marketing push, how the fallout from THE LAST JEDI will impact the finale, and the fragility of “The Chosen One” prophecy. Plus, Puppet Lando stops by to recreate some wild Billy Dee Williams quotes from recent print interviews. This is our final opportunity to discuss, speculate, and even vent a little, before the end of an era. Listen to hear what we have to say!

Should I be excited about this new movie? I've never felt more confused after this week's show. Jason goes on a roll, and part of me was, "You go, girl, Lucasfilm and Disney gone crazy," and another part of me felt we've all got so into the weeds of the behind the scenes we can't see the forest for the trees anymore. There's new Star Wars being made. How am I conflicted on how to feel about that?

Rebel Force Radio

Don't worry about that stuff. Just go to the movie and have a great time. Like I said, it feels odd for me going into this one with such a critical eye. I hope that all goes out the window in the first five minutes of the film.

Wow, wasn’t expecting this kind of episode so close to release. I would love to hear final thoughts and rampant last minute speculation on what you guys think is going to happen in this movie. Who lives, who dies, who we will see and won’t see, guesses on the overall plot, and any other crazy theories. As much as Endgame ended that “saga” it sure left threads out there for where Marvel live action is going next.

Rebel Force Radio

I personally couldn't do that type of episode, with speculation etc. I have been super spoiled going into this and I know way too much to have a conversation without spoiling everyone else. We are talking big picture stuff. That's probably why we have been more into the behind the scenes stuff as we ramp up towards the release. For better or for worse, I guess. The sound bites this week pretty much guided the conversation. It's not like we say to each other "Hey, let's gripe our asses off this week". I personally am looking into the deep dive into the film after it releases and picking apart the story. Hopefully they will make it good! - JMac

You have many episodes that make my day more enjoyable. It’s fun to listen to you two delve into the Star Wars mythology. Then there are episodes like this that are like listening to the impeachment hearings. Life’s too short to be miserable, guys! Waldorf and Stadler laugh as much as they gripe.

Jamie Bruno

I kept listening and found them at the end!

Loved the show, guys. I’m especially a fan of Jason’s Kathleen Kennedy impersonation. I start to laugh when I simply here him say her name now. But the critical eyes are good and fun and valid. The Disney stewardship has been a rollercoaster and we’re still on the ride so it’s natural to wonder if what’s coming is a climb or a dip. When it’s all over, it’ll be fun to go back and absorb everything that’s happened since Force Awakens.

Jason had a lot to get off his chest and I did too before we walk into the theater next week. And, like much of fandom, we found ourselves getting triggered by some of the recent media quotes coming from the cast and crew. It's really bittersweet, but I hope the Skywalker stories continue to be told in other mediums. I look forward to a great film experience next week to help us move ahead. - JMac

"...part of me felt we've all got so into the weeds of the behind the scenes we can't see the forest for the trees anymore." I keep thinking about this and I feel the same way. I think we will be able to lose that baggage with a great Star Wars film. I hope we will be able to forget all the bs that's been going on with a solid film and one that moves us. I am looking forward to it! - JMac

Great episode as always. Will be interesting to see what actually plays out in Ep 9. I’m walking in with a glass half full mentality and think J.J. will pull it off. Were those real Billie Dee quotes or made up? If real, he might have been drinking a little too much Colt 45.

I’m hoping that Jason finds more positive ways to deal with his feelings about Star Wars right now. The continuous mocking, derision, and criticizing even the most minute of things at any opportunity i find is really affecting my ability to be enthusiastic about Star Wars. I tune into RFR every week as I have for years to celebrate SW and not trot out the same dead horse corpse week after week to beat it some more. Let’s spread a little positivity for this saga that we all love so much...there’s a way to frame criticism in positive and constructive tones and methods while not killing your own spirit as well as listeners.

Ruin Johnson killed Luke, snoke and phasma in one movie. What a jack ass.

I am going to listen to this episode soon. After reading the comments it sounds controversial! Can't wait!

Jason, man, chill out! Your hate has made you powerful! I mean, The Last Jedi broke my heart too, but you're in danger of becoming actual TLJ Luke! That said, love you guys more than ever and Puppet Lando's recap of Billy Dee's press is easily the funniest thing I've ever heard on the show. Please put it on YouTube.

And this is why I've been a loyal RFR listener since the W. Bush administration. Not only are you taking Patreon feedback, you came back a day later to say more. We're all here cause we love the show and you guys. Some weeks are up and a whole lot less are sideways. We're fans because we'll share our thoughts--and in some ways that's what's going on with this week's show, too, I think. If you dig something you say what you feel. You're our bellwether for fandom. If your digging it, we probably should too. So, as this trilogy ends with some minor disappointment, our passion of the Wars and RFR will never wane. Thanks, JMac. Merry Christmas!
