Welcome to RFR’s very first audio commentary track for STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER, wrapping up the controversial Sequel Trilogy and finale to “The Skywalker Saga”. The film received mixed reviews and this commentary is a reflection of that with opinions ranging the spectrum from very favorable to very critical and all points in between. We really seem to like it like it while RFR brother Billy Mac tends to lean in the other direction. All three of us have our likes and dislikes so you will hear a variety of honest opinions and critique. No phony gushing or harsh hatred from any of us, just well-thought out observations and analysis of Episode IX from three hardcore fans since 1977, along with a bunch of laughs. This show works as both a commentary track you can listen to as you watch the film, or as a standalone audio podcast. You won’t be getting an official audio commentary track from cast and crew with the soon-to-be released Digital and Blu Ray releases, so we’re happy to fill that void. And, as a special exclusive bonus, members of RFR ALL ACCESS on PATREON get to watch the movie along with us, without having to fumble around to sync the video with the audio. So join today to watch Episode IX with us tonight!

RFR ALL ACCESS MEMBERS: Look for the video coming Friday morning!

4 beers deep alert! Jimmy and Billy 1:38:00 debate/argument is purest example of SW discourse.

Can’t wait to see the video and listen to your commentary.

Puppet Lando can now critique the lack of BDW screentime in real time!

Jacob Roth

Love that you guys are doing the video along with it! Very convenient, especially since I don't have a copy yet lol

I think Billie Mac needs to pay closer attention to episodes 7 and 8. Kylo is acting out dark side in an attempt to extinguish the light. But resistance is futile...oops wrong franchise.

Is the voice of Palpatine in the Fortnight clip from the same actor? It sounds just a bit different from Ian McDiarmid.

I'm with Team Billy Mac on this one. Thanks Billy for being a respectful and sincere voice for those of us who feel the same 🍺💯👍

The Goonies not being a key flick for Jimmy and Billy growing up: The first time I felt a distance in age with the Mac brothers. (And it was Chester Copperpot’s map not Oswald Cobblepot’s, Jason. That's the Penguin!)

I promise to watch The Goonies soon out of respect to Richard Donner. I think by 1985, I was more into stuff like Fletch and music (saw AC/DC and Crue that year!). Goonies seemed too much aimed at the little ones.

I haven’t had a chance to listen to all of it yet but overall have really enjoyed the conversation. No Goonies or Home Alone? I cried inside a little bit when I heard that. I was shocked because Billy Mac and I are the same age 😁. A couple thoughts on things you discussed: 1) Death Star 2 door opening. I never even thought this was odd thanks to the Battlefront 2 game. The doors on the old Star Destroyer wrecks on the Jakuu level open and close. Lol. I got so used to it I never questioned it in the movie. 2) somehow I forgot the second point between finishing running, eating dinner and taking a shower. I’ll re-listen on my commute tomorrow to refresh my memory. Good grief, stinks to get old...

Eric from Phoenix

Not sure you will love Goonies now. Part of the nostalgia is due to me seeing it as a kid. It is one of our mainstays for long road trips and/or vacation viewing at our house.

Wow, this was probably one of the most insightful commentaries I've ever listened to due to the opposing viewpoints. I wish we got more of those in movies. Anyways, this has helped me to think more about TROS and the ST in general. I've been appreciating both more of late, even while struggling quite a bit. But your guys' end thoughts really summed up a lot of conclusions I've come to myself: The ST is a hot mess, but that doesn't mean you still can't enjoy it. There are some things really worth holding onto from it that I do indeed treasure quite a lot. Thanks so much for your integrity, guys. Hopefully a lot of people listening out there will take a cue from you guys and seek to look at issues from more than one angle.

When we were kids, BMac and I would often walk in each other footsteps when it came to pop culture. By the time Goonies and later Home Alone came out, we really weren't attracted to family fare. We would go to the drive in and see slasher flicks outside in the summertime with a few coolers of beer we smuggled in. Or watch old school movies with our dad, like Patton, The Great Escape, The Godfather, Stalag 17...Lots of history and war movies. John Wayne. But really, we mostly spent time with music, playing in garages and basements, and going to concerts. But the good thing is you can always discover it as it were new. Maybe someday I will sit thru all of Home Alone. It was filmed all around the area where we grew up, North Shore Chicago suburbs, as all John Hughes films were. Does it count if I watched Home Alone 3? I actually DID sit all the way thru that one! - JMac

You guys are gonna have to jump on those other commentaries ASAP. I start working from home on Monday. Need something to spark some joy in our lives with everything shutting down. 😷🤪😱🤯

Eric from Phoenix

Thanks for the reply JMac and can’t believe you set through all of Home Alone 3. I haven’t even done that. I think part of the difference between me and Billie Mac is the fact I grew up in Small Town Iowa. Really not much else to do but go to movies or watch movies on VCR. Also, no bands were getting started in my area, although I did play the trombone in Band and Jazz Band 😁
