It's another RFR EARLY BIRD SPECIAL!!!

We're hanging out with our old pal, STAR WARS writer Adam Bray, who has contributed to many Star Wars books over the past 8 years. Adam fills us in on some fun "Easter Eggs" he placed into ULTIMATE STAR WARS, including one honoring another RFR friend. Plus, Adam provides insight into the Lucasfilm Story Group and what their actual function is, along with other highlights from his career working in the STAR WARS universe. In news headlines: Disney is restructuring to prioritize Disney+ and we talk about what impact it may have on future Star Wars projects. New info about the mysterious Snoke has been revealed along with an interesting (and perhaps controversial) factoid about George Lucas's Sequel Trilogy Treatment. We look at a new TV spot for THE MANDALORIAN Season Two, and the story about how a sick Swank almost took down the Emperor.

Sweet!! I've got to go to Flint and back this morning. This will be perfect.

Peter Beisser

Having just watched "A New Hope," I know now that we’re all catching up with Alec Guinness' age just like Ewan is. He didn’t look nearly as old as I remembered. Yikes! Time flies y'all.

Eric from Phoenix

Just started listening. Did Jason get HFM in 2012? That was the first Celebration we took our kids to. Not only did they find out there we would be moving from PA to CO but my middle son came down with Strep on the last day. Miserable day for him and my wife and the flight home was awful.

Eric from Phoenix

Lol, just needed to listen a couple extra minutes for the answer. Maybe Ethan really had HFM? I didn’t know about RFR back then so it’s possible he shook hands with Swank :)

Grayson Owens

Oh man I can not believe you guys missed out on Mark Hamill seeking you out, that is nuts! I also can't believe Jason could have potentially spread his hoof disease to an entire convention center. Great show guys!

Steven Jimenez

How did I miss the notification for this!

Rebel Force Radio

Once I missed a backstage meet up with Frank Oz at Disney World because I left my cell phone on Star Tours. Pissed! - JMac

Grayson Owens

I can imagine, the closest star encounter I ever had at Disney was meeting the director of Fireproof at Splash Mountain. I would trade that for a near miss of Mark Hamill or Frank Oz for sure haha.

Eric from Phoenix

Great show as always. Adam was awesome and I’m looking forward to the next time he’s on the show. A couple thoughts/comments: 1) Disney - Not sure how they could work on a project and not know if it is a movie or tv show. The budget alone would have to be different, wouldn’t it? Maybe that’s the change. No more $250 million movies?, 2) Obi Wan series - I wonder how much “The Volume” changes the post production timeline? I would assume it would be faster. 3) Mando Trailer - see my post on the community tab :), 4) Jawas - Your discussion made me thing of a book from when I was a kid called The Mystery of the Rebellious Robot. Star Wars did an article on it here -> https://www.starwars.com/news/watercolor-wookiees-star-wars-books-in-the-70s.

Nick Whenham

Great show! By the way, the production of the new Batman film is currently well and truly underway in Liverpool, UK, despite all the Covid lockdowns. Photos online.

Brett

Enjoyed this show! Great stuff!

Steven M DuBrey

Loved this show. Lots to think about. For the sake of the budget conversation: I think the screen size doesn’t matter anymore. The last few years I feel like these big budget movies look better and more detailed at home on our 4K TVs. Theater projection always seems “muddier”.

Eric from Phoenix

I agree TV sets have gotten better but in my opinion the huge screen (can’t duplicate at home) and the superior sound still make the theater the best place to see a movie. In addition, there’s nothing like seeing a movie with lots of other people or a sporting event or a musical, there’s energy from the crowd reaction. With the current pandemic this isn’t possible so the small screen makes a ton of sense for studios like Disney to focus on.

Steven M DuBrey

Well yeah, of course. I just meant that from the universal budget/production angle it makes sense that they can spend and make the same money no matter where they release.

Jared Cantor

I agree with Steven. I enjoy movies at home so much more, and I don't even have surround sound or a big TV (yet!). And unlike Eric, I don't enjoy the crowds at movies at all. In my perfect world movies can still open in theaters but there would be simultaneous streaming releases too. I'd never go to a theater again, even for a SW movie. I'd just invest in a huge OLED TV and surround sound system, all professionally installed

Steven M DuBrey

That’s the dream, right. Legit home theaters. The tech is finally available at a price point that makes it possible.

Antonio from NJ

What a great convo...and so interesting to hear the actual role of story group is relegated, and not as expansive as we thoughy.

Antonio from NJ

Just to add a little here...I dont think anyone under 35 is charmed by the movies in the same way as the generations before are. I honestly think movies will revert to the night out it once was in the 30s-50s ...like going to a fancy restaurant. And in home entertainment will be the norm. And yes I hear you on big screens and audio...you know who doesnt care about that? Kids. You know what movies are the biggest drivers for cinemas? Family films. As a parent... bringing my kids to the theater can be a tough thing manage. With Vod - whether its price of the night, ability to manage bathroom breaks etc, or knowing our 6 year old can just chill out is much better than when we saw frozen 2 in cinema.

Steven M DuBrey

Yeah. Change of perspective for sure. Especially on Rian Johnson’s collaborative work with Lucasfilm. Makes me excited for his potential trilogy again. Haven’t been for a while.

Josh Carter

I'm under 35 and the only thing I've really missed this year (other than a steady job lol) has been the cinema. Nothing will ever replace the Movie Theatre in my opinion, as Eric from Phoenix noted, the energy and vibe in the cinema is unparalleled to the "vibe" of a home theater. I recognize the fact that most people don't feel the same way, but I truly hope that there are enough of us die-hard cinema fans around to keep these things in business if they survive 2020.

Josh Carter

Also.... The home screen gives a much sharper image, but does that really mean that it's "better"? I prefer my Star Wars VHS, or DVDs so I can't smell the plastic on set. Less is more at this point.

Rebel Force Radio

It seems like they are very hands on if the director wants them to be (Johnson). Or they watch from the sidelines (Abrams).
