Another RFR Early Bird Release!

A big bombshell dropped this week as new plot points were revealed for the Disney-rejected George Lucas STAR WARS sequel trilogy, including the villain, Darth Talon. We discuss it with Star Wars expert, artist, and friend of the show Paul Bateman. Speaking of friends of the show, Steve Sansweet joins us In The Cantina to talk ‘The Wars’ and give us details about the upcoming Rancho Obi-Wan Virtual Gala. Plus, an RFR Sound Lab Investigative Report about “The Son of The Suns” dialog buried in RETURN OF THE JEDI, music from THE MANDALORIAN as interpreted by young Parker Swank, and Baby Yoda gets a little gassy.

Very much off subject but through the YouTube rabbit hole found this. Nothing too interesting per se but there is a fun moment in the interview where Mark and Carrie sing together for a few seconds.. https://youtu.be/4Ubz7PKKdvU

You think Disney realize now that they screwed up betting against George? And how did they let this story out? I mean that's a legit Taschen book.

Blake Weaver

Paul AND Steve in the same show? This was one heck of a listen! Breaks my heart to hear how George’s plans weren’t used but hearing it discussed by you guys was great.

Justin Harrell

My first thought was the son of sons raw audio sounded like people speaking in tongues

Great episode! You mentioned Pablo's book Fascinating Facts, which I've read and I wanted to pass along some other nuggets from it. 1) per the book, Lucas' original outline had Rey as a 14-yr old girl named Taryn. In later outlines she became Thea and then Winkie for a bit. When JJ came on board, Thea became Sally (a code name) which changed to Kira (another code name during production), and then briefly Echo and finally Rey; 2) Kylo originally removed his helmet earlier in TFA than what we see, which is when he's interrogating Rey. During editing, JJ decided to keep that reveal until the interrogation so ILM had to go and digitally add the mask onto Driver's face for those scenes.

Yeah.... Man, Lucas's stuff just makes way more sense. I like certain things of the ST and can make them work, as I discussed in my Q&A. And those things are genuinely powerful to me and I think they do some great stuff for the overall saga. But man...I really wish we had Lucas's story. I always knew it would rock and now it's finally revealed a little. Pretty cool stuff!

Wow, amazing bombshell with Lucas's ST treatment preview! This is the stuff so many of us have been clamoring for the last five years or more. So glad Lucas himself is finally opening up about all this. Treasure trove of information. GOLD.

I also like what Jimmy Mac was saying about how Abrams and company kept certain basic ideas from Lucas's stuff. That's encouraging to see. But man, I'm so in the middle.on everything.... On the one hand it's great to see this. On the other, it just verifies how great a story we missed.... A bitter pill to swallow, indeed.

If Jason reads these, your son is off to a great start. I started the same way, but it sounds like he discovered chords a few years before I did. Do your ears a favor and get that piano tuned.

But you know what, after hearing Sansweet talk back to back with the ST news, it helps to bring home just how special Star Wars really is, especially in these turbulent times in which we live. Yeah they screwed up pretty bad on the ST. But man, I still love Star Wars! So I'll cling to the good stuff that we did get in the ST and just ride with that as best I can! We gotta keep that Star Wars positivity when things can easily get so cynical in these days. :D

Great RFR podcast......farts are funny!....poo doo!!

Jared Cantor

Yes, it came out last month (not to be confused with The SW Book that also just came out).

Brian Robinson

You should have kept Paul on. He would have whipped up some original trilogy fart concept art.

Great show guys! I agree with JMac, why can’t we get George’s idea fleshed out in a comic book series? There’s lots of left over Clone Wars and Underworld TV scripts that could totally be made into comics. Slap a Legends or some other disclaimer on there so folks know it isn’t cannon. My wife and I were going to attend our first ever Ranco Gala in June and were so disappointed when it was cancelled. Looking forward to the virtual event and hoping to attend in person in 2021.

Great rant from jimmy at the beginning about George

Steven M DuBrey

I think in light of this stuff it’s important to remember George would always push forward and change. I think we need to take any old comments( like the old Mark Hamill interview) with a grain of salt, he would have changed his mind about the future of the series based on his Clone Wars experiences. I think he learned as much from working with Dave Filoni as he taught him. Any work George would have put into the sequel trilogy would have been much more collaborative than what he did for the prequel trilogy. Disney made a hell of a mistake not working with him.
