In 1996, the RETURN OF THE JEDI by Brian Daley hit the airwaves on NPR to complete the original trilogy radio drama. In 2021, RFR VIP favorite Matt Rashid returned to the RFR Q&A to complete our review. We talk our likes and dislikes along with the history, casting, Easter eggs, and a few surprise cameos.

You guys are right about the flashback to Mara Jade showing up at Jabba's sail barge, it's one of the early chapters in Heir to the Empire and told from Luke's perspective after he revisits the dark side cave on Dagobah. DarthAngelus is in the midst of animating the Thrawn trilogy on YouTube, and this episode is recreated beautifully on his channel: https://youtu.be/0ErkaI6CTmg

Oh man, I was wondering about him as they were talking about this. Good to know! I've been behind on his episodes but really love what he's done.

Great episode, guys! I was really thrown off guard about Mara Jade being in this radio drama. I don't think I've ever heard the whole thing. Really cool that they worked in EU stuff, especially her and SOTE. Gives me a much greater appreciation for how they really did try to work everything together. It's just unfortunate there wasn't too much else to go on this time around.... So it goes, sometimes!

Also, I loved the bit at the beginning with Matt's kids! I initially thought at first that my player had skipped ahead or something, since there wasn't the typical music intro but this jazz stuff accompanying a hard intro of Matt and his kids. Lol Might have to try that one myself one day, now that I have a little one.... :P

Kirk Leppert

Cheers on rounding out the trilogy, Matt. Great episode. Hope you continue to do these!

Matt Rashid

They seemed to put as much love as they could into the production, despite the challenges

Philip Ehlke

Great episode! I now have a reason to watch My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Catching up on the Q&As I missed and one note is that anytime Jimmy wants to open up his sound lab and talk about some of the cool things he’s learned or sounds he’s discovered, I’m totally down to listen. A Star Wars Oxygen-style show just covering the FX would be 🤯

For sure. And for that, it has my respect! Now if only they'd get around to doing radio dramas of the Other films....

Sean W. from Warsaw

You did a good job, Matt! It's so cool to see so mucu love for something that, I feel, has largely gone by the wayside and has been forgotten about. Maybe this series will help the younger audience to get into it and pass it on a bit. :)

Rebel Force Radio

Kyle and I came close back in 2012, right before the sale to Disney. Then, it all fell apart. But maybe someday!

Rebel Force Radio

Why haven't I done that already? I have a Sound Lab follow up to this week's RFR Q&A that you guys will enjoy. It will be part of this week's RFR.

Man I love these radio dramas, I jockey between these and the old Sherlock Holmes ones w Basil Rathbone/Nigel Bruce and the Hitcherhikers Guide production. I'd love for RFR to put something on like that.

Patrick Palen

Thanks for the review, Matt R! I've enjoyed all three. You and Jimmy have great chemistry

Patrick Palen

I grew up in the early 2000s with republished tape cassettes of those Sherlock adventures. They were great

Joe Dallas

Great episode Matt! I now know how to use the word meritocracy in a sentence and I am going to try to use it tomorrow a minimum of three times!

Matt Rashid

I remember those Sherlock Holmes radio plays. They got me hooked on Conan Doyle

Eric from Phoenix

Great job Matt! Now I need to go back and listen to the radio dramas. I remember liking the first radio drama the best as it had the most extra / expanding the story material.

Marc Groundrunner

I now have to listen to the radio drama! Never knew they were around. Great Q&A!
