The relationship between a father and his son is at the core of the Star Wars Original Trilogy. RFR VIP Mike Aragon joins Jimmy Mac to dive into the different father/son relationships and unpack some of the themes that are consistent across the Skywalker saga. We also talk about the evolution of Luke into a different, more confident individual by RETURN OF THE JEDI. Was it what we always expected? And how did we react when we saw Luke in THE MANDALORIAN? Some of our reactions might surprise you!

Oooh! This episode sounds really deep. Can't wait to listen!

Fun conversation Mike! And Jimmy your Yoda impression was on point 👌 Star Wars Father moment for me - my first daughter was born in April 2019 (second on is due this August), but for first one she wasn't quite a month old for her first May the 4th. She didn't want to sleep the night of May 3rd so at midnight realizing it was going to be a sleepless night I turned on A New Hope. She didn't sleep, but she stayed quiet the entire movie and just let me hold her and give her the play by play. It was a fun moment for me as a new father and as a Star Wars fan. :)

Really enjoyed your conversation guys. Looking forward to hearing you again soon Mike! Your guys take on things as parents was really interesting to hear. I don’t have any kids so to hear your perspectives was interesting. Also VERY interesting to hear your thoughts on Luke in ROTJ. It’s funny that never crossed my mind about how different he is in that film. But I always just knew it’s because of his growing to know the force. It molded his personality.

Great show guys! I don’t have kids, but my twin niece and nephew (not named Luke and Leia) have just invited me to join them for their first Phantom Menace viewing - they are both five, and I think seeing my nostalgic favourite Star Wars movie through their eyes is going to be one of my favourite Star Wars experiences yet!

Fettmatic

Awesome show by both & welcome back to SW Mike.

Yeah, this was a really good topic. Never once considered this, either. Great perspective, guys! I guess I never thought Luke was "pious," but rather just more serious due to what happened to him on Cloud City and his growing concern for his relationship with his newfound father. I don't think he was entirely unlike the Luke from Eps 4 and 5, though. He had those moments of that younger self when on Endor; that boyish sort of smile and humor when tricking the Ewoks, etc.

Mike, what a first episode, man! So glad for this conversation, both for the deep stuff on fathers and sons and also for me being a dad. :D Much to think about! Hope to see you back, Mike!

Ben Roloff

I’ll have to give an update when it happens! We are still pretty locked down in Canada, so I can’t see them yet. But yes, I was Jett Lucas’ age when I saw TPM so it has always felt very personal and nostalgic to me! I love that movie through and through. Although I did see the movies in release order!

Great show! My 8 year old isn't a huge fan at all of the movies and the shows. However. . . he does watch and enjoys the Mandalorian. He has all my loose figures/vehicles that he plays with... Regarding LEGO, him and I are fans... He always gets me a star wars set for my birthday, Xmas, father's day, etc. Good star wars and dad/son times with all of that especially playing with the toys and building Legos together.

Yinz talked about ROTJ and some of your hang ups... That was my first star wars movie... As a kid, and still as an adult, I still don't understand what lukes intial plan was getting into jabba's palace?? 1) Luke probably knew jabba wouldn't of agreed to anything and he was just getting r2 in place... Which is why he "gave" the droids to jabba?? But - 2) Leia comes in with chewie.. gives chewie over to jabba... Leia breaks han free and plans to leave the palace with the Han knowing full well that now jabba has got chewie captured and the droids?? So if she got Han free and they got out of there was there a plan to go in and rescue the others ? Hahaha

Great job Mike, tons of fun! I have three kids and the first two are similar in age to JMac’s boys. For them, Clone Wars was their Star Wars and ROS is their favorite movie. My daughter got into Rebels, the last season of Clone Wars, Mandalorian and now Bad Batch. She’s having a ton of fun! We watched the last two Bad batch episodes as we were flying out and then yesterday flying home from vacation. Do you still live in AZ? If you’re ever in the Phoenix area message me and we can grab a beverage :)

Mike Aragon

Thanks Eric! We're in Denver now but I still visit Phoenix for work.. hopefully that will happen again as we are starting to get back to "normal". I'll definitely let you when I'm in town. Fyi I grew up in north Phoenix (deer valley) and lived mostly in the west valley (Peoria, Surprise) before we moved to Denver about 10 years ago.

Eric from Phoenix

Even better. Our address was Castle Rock but our development was off Parker road. We were almost to Franktown (great little Mexican restaurant there). Can’t remember the darn development name but West side of the road just south of Pondarosa High School.

Mike Aragon

Geez, we were practically neighbors. Pradera? Adrianna's is the Mexican restaurant - still there and still good. When we first moved to CO we lived in the Pinery so very familiar with the area. We're in Hidden River now which is back behind the Best Buy off Parker road.

Eric from Phoenix

Ha, we were just south of Pradera. Cobblestone Ranch. I finally remembered!

Jeff Holland

Finally getting around to listening to this episode. Great show! Loved hearing other Father-kids SW stories. I have 2 kids (4&1.5 yrs old) so I’m slowly imprinting SW into their lives. Ha!
