Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy hints there may be a potential new vehicle for the characters of the sequel trilogy in an all-new Empire Magazine cover story. The article also includes quotes from the Favreau/Filoni brain trust about THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT and AHSOKA too. We read between the lines for clues about the upcoming projects. Honoring a long-time RFR tradition, we give thanks for our audience with a heavy dose of Listener Feedback featuring voice mail from our Patreon supporters.

I got a bad feeling about this...

And on the FB page we see the article about JJ's new sequel. Things that make you say hmmm

Kathleen is seriously becoming a clown. It's almost too wild to believe she can be this dense.

Great show! My memo was an older transmission but it stayed pretty relevant, so appreciate the response! Loved the Prequel praise in terms of worldbuilding and expanding the Star Wars visual style

Random question… have we heard Alex’s sleep talking before? I definitely was having deja vu while listening to the voice memo haha.

Man, took me a week of listening to like 15 minutes at a time to get through this episode! Life is too hectic.... Lol But I made it through! Anyways, loved the show, as always. I think the part that had me especially intrigued was the mystery stuff in regard to the prequels and comparing it to the sequels. Sifo-dyas has so much potential even today to be told in full! That whole story is incredibly intriguing. I love what we go from the CW series, but especially what we got from the Plagueis novel. Is there more EU stuff out there? I'd love to know more. I know the Dooku Jedi Lost stuff touched on it a little, but it wasn't that interesting. If anyone could point me to more stuff about Sifo-dyas, though, that'd be great!

As for the sequel mystery box approach, I think I am more or less in agreement with the RFR guys about it being a less than satisfactory approach to storytelling; and that more care should be taken with SW, etc. That being said, somehow, as much as I disliked the answer to Rey's mystery the first and second times I watched TROS, somehow or another the answer has actually really grown on me! Call it a guilty pleasure. Lol I think that, even in spite of knowing insider details as the RFR guys have detailed so well, what it ultimately comes down to for myself is just getting into the world and using the imagination a bit. It's definitely far from perfect even still, but I find it intriguing enough; that there's a bit more to love than to hate about it, however little that bit might be. The more I thought about it, the less I actually saw it coming even in just guesswork. I actually thought she's be Palpatine's daughter, but while granddaughter seemed really hokey and gimmicky and just ingenuine at first, like desperately grasping for straws, the idea behind her being a descendant through a clone meant to bring him to full power but ended with his ultimate downfall somehow works. I like that Palpatine was working with all this cloning stuff and combining it with dark science and sorcery and all that. Gives a bit more of a payoff to the prequels in that way with the talk about Plagueis, the concept of the clones, and so forth. You expect he would have tried to do something devious, schemes within schemes, from all that. Going by just the original six films, you don't get that. Now, because of it, it continues to pay off in rather strong ways. We see they're building off this with Bad Batch, Mandalorian, and maybe others. It's working out pretty nicely, as I see it. :D

I'll even go so far as to say this: I think it makes Palpatine out to be a better villain. It improves his character. It's not to say that his character was ever in need of being improved or whatnot, but it definitely adds to him, rather than takes away from him. It shows him as that much more dangerous and cunning than we ever thought possible. Someone who can cheat death, however temporarily, is a dangerous person, indeed. And then to make all these bioengineered beings from presumably whole cloth--from nothing but genetic material, splicing it and reworking it to make a literally brand new creature that's intelligent and Force-sensitive (Snoke and his clones)--all of whom are running the show in Palpatine's stead for a while, no less--this isn't something we ever knew could be done in Star Wars. The answer to Rey's parentage opens up a whole box of new stuff for storytelling in Star Wars, with some pretty serious implications. If you can gene-splice a new being into existence who has the Force, well...what more can you do...? The sequels show us something many of us didn't even know we wanted, as I see it!

It's kind of been a 50/50 thing for me over the years, even having been a Dark Empire fan myself all this time. Only recently have I started really coming around to the concept, helped quite a bit by TROS. But I'm curious, Jimmy, in a nutshell, how do you look at Vader's sacrifice in relation to Palpatine's return? Some people get really bent out of shape with this, thinking it was pointless. But I think I remember you saying that his sacrifice wasn't so much about killing Palpatine as it was saving his son and being redeemed, right? If so, that definitely helps. It's a good perspective.

Great show guys! Some random thoughts: I have a thanksgiving song that my wife, her brother and her cousins made up when they were little kids. I wanted to leave it for you in a voicemail but my wife won’t give me the melody because she’s afraid I will embarrass myself. Lol. Maybe at ICC con :). I hope we see Dengar save Boba Fett and wouldn’t mind seeing other BHs from Empire make appearances in the Book of Fett. One of my theories is that Bib double crossed Fett after he was rescued from the Sarlacc. Bib left him to die in the desert and gave his armor to the Jawas. Also, do you thinks it’s possible we could get Han Solo and Chewie showing up to take out Fett at the end of the season? Do a little de-age on Harrison like they did with Mark? I would love it!!

Eric from Phoenix

Yes, I think it was included when he asked for advice from the guys. Don’t remember what he talked about but it was funny.

Eric from Phoenix

Paul B’e Ming the Merciless reference is spot on. I had no problem with him coming back but the issue was that it wasn’t planned and built into the first two movies. It was just thrown against the wall to see if it would work.

Sean W. from Warsaw

True enough. I think it works, though. Lol Like I said, call it a guilty pleasure! I've actually really liked the idea more and more that Snoke was this created being by Palpatine.

Sean W. from Warsaw

The whole thing isn't well executed, but somehow I think it does work. It would have been amazing had they had it planned out, but I'll run with it more than not! I think I've been getting more over it these days and willing to look at the good parts to move forward, whatever the behind the scenes stuff. Just to look at it purely in terms of story as presented onscreen. It's far from perfect, but is better. For instance, I like that Snoke isn't just this weird, random dude who shows up at the end of the story, detached from the other movies. He could have been a cool original character of his own, but someone so new that could have topped Palpatine as the big bad....? I don't know. Palps has too big a place after all these decades! If you're gonna continue the movies and have them so connected, replacing the big bad with an unheard of big bad might have worked, but it would have had to have been done extraordinarily well. I for one wasn't feeling that from TFA, and certainly not from TLJ, even recognizing his potential going in fresh with all the Snoke theories. Even the Plagueis identity never sat well with me. Given how much he was already like the Emperor, I thought he might as well be the Emperor for real. I remember Chris Terrio commenting on that to some extent, and I can see his point. The sequels pretty much desperately needed the bite only someone like Palpatine coulr provide after TLJ became so divisive, especially; but I think they needed it from the beginning. It felt so detached from the rest, even trying to link it all together with Snoke theories that were far out there. It's just unfortunate they realized this so late. I applaud the effort, in some ways, to try something new; but it was too little, too late. Palpatine's return may have been a kind of damage control, but it was probably the best choice they had at that point. And as I detailed above, I think there's probably more to love than to hate about it, as clumsy as it is. To me, Snoke now fits in much better; but moreso gives us something so unique to SW that we didn't even know was possible before as a bioengineered being made from scratch (presumably). Pretty intense world building for mere damage control, I'd argue!

Eric from Phoenix

Sean, I have no skills with writing or creating anything. Just have fun doing what ifs and crazy theories. Lol

Travis Shonio

Hey Sean, I have to say seeing your viewpoints and passion for Rise of Skywalker is honestly refreshing. As someone who doesn’t like the film, I at the same time tire of the constant bashing it gets, and seeing fresh perspectives is always fascinating. Take care.

Travis Shonio

Loved the episode as usual guys! Hearing these characters will live on was obvious, but nice to hear nonetheless. It’ll likely be through comics and novels mainly, which I’m more than ok with. Cobra Kai showed that even after a lackluster sequel like Karate Kid 3, the franchise could be continued, while acknowledging and building off the ideas of said sequel. So I have faith there are writers out there who care about the sequel characters as much as I do as a fan, who get to tell the next great adventure for these great characters.

Sean W. from Warsaw

Thanks so much for your kind words! It's been one of my goals from the beginning to at least see things from a different perspective that others may appreciate, even if they don't agree. I wish I could say I love the ST, but I certainly don't hate it, either. But I do like opening up dialogue to see the good stuff that's in the films and try to roll with that, see what comes out. Your words show I've accomplished at least a little of that!

Sean W. from Warsaw

That's a good point. I typically end up forgetting about the comics, myself, but would welcome a continuation of some sort. But I worry they're gonna be locked into this mindset that only the most important stories should be in the movies or streaming shows and we'll only get the "side stuff," so to speak, in the comics, and that it'll take forever to really get a good continuation of the ST in any medium. Then again, there have been some comics that delved into what seem like really big ideas the films and such don't, like the Vader comic with the other dimension or vision, and even the High Republic stuff that develops a whole new era. So I guess time will tell!
