As heard on the latest RFR, these are little plastic heads filled with candy to promote The Empire Strikes Back. Released by Topps in 1980, the taste of a Slurpee at 7-11 always takes me back to hunting down those heads that summer. -JMac

I enjoyed this post of the episode. I don’t remember these since I was born in 84, but I remember the 89’ Batman ones (still have some in my collection). I have fond 7-11 Star Wars memories of the ROTS promotion. I’ll post pictures of those on the fb group.

Thanks for sharing this. My family had moved to Chile when I was at the ripe age of 8 when Empire came out. Therefore, I don't know if these little guys ever made it there, but to my knowledge that would be "no." Fortunately, we moved back to the U.S. right as I turned 10, just in time to see ROTJ in the theaters here. Loved it!

Totally forgot about these until I heard the conversation on COMLINK this morning. What memories! I wonder why no human characters (Luke, Leia, Han, Lando) were part of this series. This is something I notice with Japanese promotional giveaways and toys from the 1970s-early 1980s--a clear preference for robots and androids over human characters. Maybe manufacturers struggled with sculpting a likeness (harder to do with a human face)? Or is there something more to it?

Chewbacca is nightmare material.

I couldn't visualize what Jimmy was talking about during Comlink but now that I see the picture I totally remember these. I vaguely remember getting one of these (or some other pop culture brand) and not really liking the candy.

I see that the market for these has spiked a little on eBay since this episode dropped! Get in while the getting's good, I guess. I just nabbed a batch of eight for about twenty dollars US. Of course, with shipping to Japan, it ends up costing fifty! LOL Batch included Darth Vader (3 pieces), C3PO, Chewbacca, Stormtrooper (2 pieces) and Boba Fett. The original box is quite a bit more expensive. Around $200 in good condition. If anyone else is going out hunting for these, good luck!

Lol, not really. Usually I liked them about halfway through the necklace then I got sick of them.

Went to the Tucson toy show on Sunday (500+ dealers) and saw a unopened box of these for sale. The box was a little damaged but I totally forgot to look at the price... The place was packed and I was more concerned at not making a traffic jam.
