Despite their popularity, Role Playing Games are something of a mystery to many STAR WARS fans (like me). RFR V.I.P. Matt Rashid is a longtime enthusiast and he has taken the task of training me in RPG. We begin the campaign by creating a character and growing accustomed to some of the gameplay. Let the games begin! - Jimmy Mac

This is gonna be good!!!!

Eric from Phoenix

I rolled a crit!! At least I hope I hear that at least once.

Jeff Holland

Oh man, this is gonna be a good one! “This is where the fun begins!”

Joe Dallas

Let’s Go! Because I do want to learn! I wanna be a Moroff type Rebel character.

Tyler Page

LETS GOOOOO!!!!! Can’t wait to listen to this

Alexander Gates

As someone who doesn’t play these games, I can say this idea is “highly entertaining”! Great first episode, looking forward to a campaign.

Jared Cantor

Can't wait to listen! This was a great idea Matt!

Andrew

This is awesome. I was a big fan of the old West End Games version of the rpg.

RebelScum1138

Awesome, glad to see Matt got jimmy to try out some rpg action. I recently ran a d&d 5th edition conversion of this system and it was such a blast. For Jimmy or anyone else interested in rpgs but doesn't quite grasp what it actually is, it's essentially improv acting for conversation and light desicion making and you're using the rules, mechanics, abilities your character has and the dice to decide how major actions and combats pan out. It's a little daunting at first but can be a great time with some good people who really get into it.

Antonio from NJ

Oh baby this is like my jelly, jam and Nutella - can't wait to listen

Antonio from NJ

Haha I kinda want to do a campaign w/ my fellow Patreons

Antonio from NJ

First time I played a tabletop I was nervous because I was joining a group of friends who had played a lot. Turns out it was just fun, and gets easier as you play. A good dm is essential.

Corey Hunt

This is fantastic! I'm excited for Jimmy to try this game out! The RPG from Fantasy Flight is really an amazing system. I've GM'ed a few games and played in two different short campaigns. It's fantastic for co-operative storytelling, and the dice mechanics are so much more interesting than the typical d20/ success or fail that we see in D&D. Hang in there Jimmy, I know all the funky dice and rules can seem overwhelming at first, but trust your GM to tell you what you need to know and he'll guide you through a really fun time! I hope to hear more about these adventures soon! :)

Todd “Suds” Sedlacek

This was really interesting to listen to. Matt is certainly a great explainer of the ins and outs of RPGs. Always love listening to your episodes!!

Jeremy Hopper

I've never played a RPG myself, but I really enjoyed listening to this a lot!!!

Matt Rashid

After listening to the show, I have to say again that Jimmy is such a sport. With very little visuals and just me yapping away he was willing and on board and we didn’t even get to the fun stuff. Can’t wait for that. Thank you again, Jimmy!

Peter Beisser

Good job, as always, Matt. Interesting that you took Jimmy to a place he was new to and he went with it. Fun stuff.

Drake Widlake

Zzzzzzzz. Possibly the worst episode. Not my cup of tea.

Matt Rashid

Sorry to hear. The good news is, Jimmy has provided so much content that there’s always something more!

KENOBI-ish

Enjoyed the episode but wish we could have gotten to hear some gameplay. Anyone with GM experience willing to put together a few Patreon member beginners games? I'd be interested in participating 🙋‍♂️. As a beginner that is 🤣.

Justin B

Looking forward to hearing more of this.

Eric from Phoenix

Loved the episode Matt! I knew what D and D was growing up but I never played and didn’t have any friends that played. I didn’t know there was a Star Wars RPG until 1987 when I exited Star Tours and found the West End Games sourcebook. I still never played a table top RPG until 2015 when we moved to AZ. One of my boys suggested D and D and we had fun playing for a few months until my boys got busy with sports, work and girlfriends. When the pandemic hit we picked D and D back up and I became the DM. So much fun! We’ve been on break for about 6 months due to school / work but will be starting back up in a couple weeks. Just about done with Dragon of Icespire Peak and will be doing Curse of Strahd next. One of the boys suggested the Star Wars RPG but I’ve got so much money tied up in D and D books / dice / modules / etc I don’t want to have to reinvest in a new game. Maybe someday :). If you’re ever looking for an extra player I’d be willing to join. I don’t have to invest as much when I’m not the DM / GM. Can’t wait to hear where the adventure goes.

Eric from Phoenix

Okay, no crits per se in the new version but now have the advantage dice. Looking forward to hearing that :)

Matt Rashid

You can crit in this system, Eric, but it’s based on the weapon stat rather than a number

Matt Rashid

I’m glad you enjoyed it, Eric. Love that you played with your boys. Hoping to do that with my kids when they’re older. The gameplay always seems to generate a lot of memories for players. Would love to get a RFR crew together with you on board!

Javier Solorzano

JMac....."Pod Castis / Pod Kestis" would have been the perfect name for your character.

Jeff Holland

I absolutely LOVE this RPG journey JMac Is about to go on. Every step needs to be documented for prosperity sake. Great job Matt!

Sean W. from Warsaw

Man, coming so late to this one, but so much fun! This is the one I had been looking forward to forever--and yet, the real fun is yet to begin! Cannot wait. I've played rpg's off and on for almost 30 years, from DnD to Star Wars, and all three of the different SW systems, to boot. So this was a lot of fun listening to Jimmy figure all this out. Matt, as someone who has DM'd and have been a player for many years, I can say with confidence you did a great job! Looking forward to seeing the adventures of San Holo/Pod Castis!

Sean W. from Warsaw

If this takes off, I think I may be up for joining, too! Depends on life, but I haven't done this in a few years, now. It could be fun to revisit!

Sean W. from Warsaw

Oh man, what if this becomes a thing and Swank gets on board?! I would probably die rolling on the floor with laughter to see these guys as like smuggler sidekicks and their crazy antics! Throw in Billy Mac and you'd have the Three Stooges meet Star Wars! Billy would have to do some Lando antics at least once. I'm imagining Rashid role-playing some dame, now!

Sean W. from Warsaw

Hey, I just remembered how for Age of Rebellion you can choose to start with a base somewhere and for Edge of the Empire you can choose a certain ship. Is that gonna be forthcoming? Letting Jimmy choose between some cool options will be a blast!

Sean W. from Warsaw

Ooh! Also, a fun idea if you and Jimmy wanna run with it. What if Pod Castis ran an underground communications network (the podcast Jimmy mentioned) that was a vehicle for Rebel sympathizers? Maybe he could speak code or something to smuggle them to different places? Just an idea!

Mai G Rashid

Finally get to hear this.... JimmyMac you are a trooper ..thank you for the birthday wishes.. maybe its books?? Good job boys.. enjoyed this <3
