The RFR Early Bird is here with this week's show a full day before everyone else gets it!

Did Sir Alec Guinness really tell a little kid to never watch STAR WARS again? It’s a well-known tale from Guinness’s memoir that had us asking many questions. We wanted to find out more so we found the kid! Daniel Henning, now a successful actor/audiobook narrator, joins us In The Cantina for the first-ever interview about his encounter with Sir Alec. We're proud to bring you his side of the story. The countdown to OBI-WAN KENOBI is on and we have audio highlights from a recent interview with Ewan McGregor. Plus, JEDI: FALLEN ORDER, Dave Grohl, The RFR Rooftop Bash and more!

Jared Cantor

Oh man, who else but RFR would have this type of content? No one, that's who. RFR for life!

Hello there! Little starshells of madness to go with a starpuffs hairdoo I've seen star wars 500 times! Alec Guinness would make me swear off the wars!

Justin B

What an amazing interview. It blows my mind how this story came full circle on RFR. Thanks guys, What a story.

Dylan McGee

How did you manage to find this guy after so many years? Amazing detective work!

Jeff Holland

Since Jonathan is from the UK, shouldn’t he have written, “RFR is the number 1 SW podcast over here by a country kilometer.”??? 😊 love the episode! Gonna make my Friday even better.

Jeff Holland

Same here. I’m always a couple of podcast episodes behind. Which is a good problem to have!

Sean W. from Warsaw

Hey, wasn't there something last year where you guys were supposed to do some sort of Munster and Star Wars mashup or something this year for April Fool's? Lol I could have sworn.... (Also only like 10 minutes in, so.... lol)

Brian Robinson

Cool guy, awesome RFR got the scoop direct from the kid....and for the FIRST time as an interview.

RobO from ChicagO

Accidentally deleted my comment about Starshells of Madness being a cool progressive rock bands album name. Then I listened to the end of the episode when you guys say it sounds like a foo fighters song, haha.

Y'know, even as a die hard SW fan, I can really appreciate Sir Alec Guinness's approach. I have nothing but immense respect for the man, though I've only ever seen him in SW and The Bridge On the River Kwai (a movie my younger brother and I watched fondly growing up). I can certainly see things from his perspective, having come from such a vastly different time with a whole different perspective as a veteran actor. Nowadays you can't really avoid seeing so many franchises advertised on anything from toothbrushes to airplanes and SW really set the standard for that, to say nothing of its influence over so many other aspects of life and popular entertainment. But every so often I have found myself wondering how beneficial such commercialism is to that extent, and do deeply appreciate the idea of a time when art was less commercial. Commercialism raises a number of interesting questions, many of the answers of which I'm not always comfortable with. And seeing it from the perspective of such a great man, I can see how it would make certain people uncomfortable and maybe even a bit offended. I don't necessarily think it's pretentious to have that perspective or any less real or grounded, either. It's a tough balance to hit in this modern day, the whole art vs commercialism thing. Not always sure how to navigate it, which perhaps is symptomatic of that conflict of interests, as age-old as it is. Anyways, fantastic interview! Great thoughts to mull over from this one, for sure.

I will say that, as much as I've always wanted to get around to seeing more of Sir Alec's works, this interview has really lit the fire under me to finally take the plunge.

Jim from Sweden

Before I even saw Star Wars (Jedi in 83) the three classic David Lean films Kwai, Larence and Zhjivago, all featuring Sir alec Guinnes were my favourite films having seen them on tv. I had also seen a few others although on top of my head I only know the weird swedish titles that often have no obvious connection to the original titles. And since I only knew Alec were in the films from stills and the read-a-longs until I saw Jedi I was expecting his role to be much more central to the story.

Eric from Phoenix

Great show guys. I can’t believe Jimmy found the kid, crazy.

John Riley

The Jedi on the run actor is (I think) confirmed to be Benny Safdie. Not really Cal Kestis looking. But, his character has not been named so hmmmmm.

John Riley

Fascinating this Alec Guinness discussion that has come up over the last two weeks. As a kid of the 70s/80s I remember adults and especially older adults of that era really didn’t like seeing kids getting “obsessed“ with anything like movies, TV, cartoons, comic books, fantasy, computers, sports, etc. Maybe it was a generational thing but they believed in amusing yourself in moderation. That makes me an absolute failure!

Martin Lampen

What a great guest. Really enjoyed hearing his story.

Martin Lampen

That is so true and well put. I think it was also expected that you would give up any hobbies once you were an adult.

Mdoge

Great show

Drake Widlake

Great episode!!! This is really getting both sides of the story!

David Seitzinger

I think that Tauntaun/Homer Simpson sound bite might have been in reference to the Tauntaun open-belly sleeping bag. The sleeping bag was an April Fool's joke on the Think Geek website, but the response was so strong that they turned the idea into a real officially licenced product.

Justin Harrell

Oh that tag at the end…”Who’s the more foolish? The fool or the fool who follows him?” That’s deep…
