The RFR Early Bird is back with this week's show before anyone else gets it!

A recent article in EW promises OBI-WAN KENOBI will focus on a time of darkness in the galaxy. We speculate! We pay tribute to comedian Gilbert Gottfried with some fun STAR WARS parodies he contributed to, like The Tonight Show. Giancarlo Esposito talked about THE MANDALORIAN season three recently and we have highlights. Also, MANDALORIAN casting news, info revealed about an upcoming STAR WARS animated series, and our final ICCC update with promoter Michael Havens!

Thank you, once again, you've blessed us with an early bird release! For those that celebrate, Happy Easter.

Happy Easter folks, thank you RFR creators (Jimmy & Jason) and the patron community for hours of entertainment!

Great to hear FJ is coming back on next month! Time to get the FJ Curse Word Counter (FJCWC) warmed up. We must alert the Star Destroyer to prepare for his arrival. Ha!

Another great episode guys! I just tried to call to leave a voicemail but I screwed that up. First one went over, second one my phone died in the middle of it so that's awesome hah.

Have to say your riff on Luke's snubbing of the three coolest Jedi in the galaxy should be an SNL skit.

Same to you! I'm looking forward to a blessed holiday with family this weekend as we commemorate Christ and His sacrifice and resurrection. Also gonna be celebrating my wife's birthday!

So all the talk about Kenobi losing faith, etc, sounds a bit too much like TLJ for comfort...and yet, at the same time, it's starting to give me a different perspective on that Luke. It's a really weird mixed bag, going through all that again while thinking of the possibilities of seeing Obi-wan come through as he does, knowing how that plays out. What's everyone else thinking on this? Anyone else getting the same uncomfortable vibes...while also being somewhat intrigued...? Not sure what to think, so far. Could definitely use a bit of insight from everyone.

Great show guys! Lots of fun speculating about the Obi-Wan series. Looking forward to seeing RFR supporters at ICC Con. I'm a little worried that the two Saturday photo-ops I purchased will end up at the same time as the RFR show but nothing I can do about it. Happy Easter to all!!

Sean- all comes down to execution imo. The last we saw Obi, for lack of better words his entire world came undone, everything that he believed/stood for had failed… the republic, the Jedi order, his best friend/brother. He probably puts all the blame on his shoulder since he failed Anakins training which led to the destruction and death of everything he stood for. I wouldn’t expect him to be all chipper and positive, we saw that all play out in ROTS. Luke on the other hand, last we saw him he brought down the empire, redeemed his father, brought the Jedi back, saved the galaxy. We “heard” why Luke turned all depressed and distraught, but barely got any screen time showing it (minus the brief flashback when he tried to off Ben). It all comes down to execution to me and that’s where they failed with Luke in the sequels, I would have been fine with a broken/distraught Luke, but I just didn’t believe it. Just my 2 cents.

Great show. I’m happy the Ahsoka thing came up. Honestly I’m sick of seeing her in everything. Clone Wars, Rebels, Mandalorian, Book of Boba, now her own show. It’s just a bit much for me personally. She’s cool but I’ve never wanted this much of her. And RIP to the great Gilbert Gottfried. I literally was trying to drive at work while laughing at his yoda. He was one of a kind and will truly be missed.

Now that I’m thinking about it more and going down a rabbit hole, wouldn’t the job of watching over Luke kinda be considered a punishment for Obi? A daily reminder of his failure? Maybe that’s how he views it until something occurs and he begins to believe that Luke is the galaxy’s New Hope.

I guess for myself I don't think I ever thought of Obi-wan at the end of ROTS as losing hope, etc. The scene of him looking out at the Lars homestead, with the classic music swelling, always imbued me with a sense that as dark as the times to come were that Obi-wan would at least put his faith in the Force, being able to commune with Qui-gon especially, and have a good friend in Yoda, to boot. I always got the impression that his biggest concern after that point wasn't so much his faith, but his having to protect Luke while keeping on the down low and not exposing his identity. All this talk about losing his communication with Qui-gon, etc, bothers me because it was clearly framed as being something that would always be there for him (indeed, "The Force will be with you. Always." is a special phrase in large part because of knowing how it worked personally in his life. If Obi-wan's story had been framed at the end of ROTS as hinting he was struggling with something I might see it a bit differently. It's not to say that I don't think Obi-wan didn't have personal struggle with the extermination of the Jedi and his own failure as a master, just that I have a hard time seeing him as falling into this deep, dark depression that's being talked about. It feels too much like they're doing yet another act of redefining classic characters. As for Luke being like a punishment? I don't know, man..... Again, it feels too much like a redefinition and never something I got from the end of ROTS when he willingly chooses to protect Luke from evil. A punishment for his failure would be him being forced against his will to watch over him specifically as a reminder of his failure, not at all dissimilarly to when Vader was forced by Palpatine to go to Mustafar in the comics. I always got the impression that Obi-wan was concerned for the future of the progeny of Anakin and Padme as much as he was concerned about the future of the galaxy, not something he took on himself as a sort of penitence. I think the writers have got to be careful in how they set this all up. As you said, it all comes down to execution. Time will tell. I'm excited about the series, though. Just a little worried due to how many similarities I'm seeing with TLJ Luke.

Jacob Conti

"I'm Luke, I gotta go get my beer on!" 🤣 Love it, and what a great take on Ahsoka. I've got to agree I enjoy Ahsoka, but the gap sometimes bugs me. Hoping maybe they address that in the series.

Kyle Starkel

I try not to worry about things over which I have no control. Besides, Luke’s arc was great in TLJ and Hamill’s performance was fantastic.
