Whoo! First one for once! Lol Wow, this was a crazy episode. Full of so much insight it's hard to wrap my mind around it. I think I was most surprised that the New Republic has mind-erasing tech.... Not feeling especially comfortable with that info, honestly.... Thoughts?

Lol JMac was that an insurance Aunt's/ants reference when you said "expired expired expired"?

Also I just got to ask what's up with Paz Vizla coming off like a total d-bag to Bo? Like first off my man your house is fallen and also I'm pretty sure Bo watched your daddy or granddaddy get his head chopped off because he was too weak. Also he love taking his helmet off too.

I’m with you Sean I didn’t like that. The whole grey area the “good guys” can have now in Star Wars doesn’t work all the time for me. Plus it takes away from the sequels. When the new republics home planet is blown up in The Force Awakens I’m supposed to feel sorry for them. Not think that they weren’t all that good to begin with so oh well.

Really enjoyed the caller who was on before FJ. The whole baptism conversation really hit home for me. The spiritual aspect of Dins group im digging. I wish that could get fleshed out more. I’m definitely with Jason on his views on the series so far. I’m enjoying it but since 2019 I do still have a lot of the same questions three and a half years later which sucks.

Valentin

Well the sequel show us a New Republic corrupt from the start. I mean they let the First Order grow without opposing any resistance. The entire Resistance group that follow Leia can hold inside the Millenium Falcon at the end of TLJ. It must not have been composed of many people...

The Mandalorian is one of the closest things to REAL SW that Disney has produced. The show actually saved the franchise. Without it, I don’t think we’d be here today. As interesting and fun this show has been, it’s a shame that it seems the roads still lead to the disastrous Disney Trilogy. Those films are so horrendously inauthentic, they can’t POSSIBLY be cannon. They are lore annihilatingly bad! The emperor died on the Second Death Star in episode 6, and that is final. Why do we have to keep wondering how everything ties to those rubbish films? Nobody likes them, and we as a fandom should move on, and prevent further opening of those wounds. Now, it does make sense that the Emperor and Vader would use Kaminoan tech to try to cheat death, but would ultimately not succeed. If Palpatine lives past episode 6, it really ruins the entire Chosen One story, and completely reverses what the OG trilogy characters fought for. So, please, can we stop talking about the Disney Trilogy?

RobO from ChicagO

As much as I dislike the sequel trilogy… you can’t just ignore it, it IS part of the Star Wars theatrical franchise, for good or bad. I don’t like World War 2, but it is part of world history, I can’t just ignore or pretend it didn’t happen. Granted I know this a drastic comparison, but it’s unfortunately the truth.

Rebel Force Radio

I'd rather not pursue my Star Wars fandom while living in denial. There is no "if"...Palpatine DOES live past episode 6.

Rebel Force Radio

Story integrity? Let's strip this sucker down to it's bare bones: Luke redeemed Vader. That was the only thing he fought for at the end and he succeeded. The Chosen One prophesy is not an element of the OT at all and is something even Yoda claimed could have been totally misinterpreted. I don't get why some put so much stock in that. The main story of the Star Wars OT and Prequels is about son redeeming his father, and those six films lead up to that one moment. The CORE Story is Luke and Darth, Son saving Father. The balance of the Force, The Jedi Order, The Sith, Rebels, Empire, Death Star...All of that is just window dressing. The goal of the first 6 films was to show Vader's fall and redemption. Palpatine surviving (in such the state that he actually did survive) is a freak show and not part of the main saga core. Neither is Rey, Snoke, or The First Order. So in essence, you CAN completely forget the Sequel trilogy exists because it is totally thematically separate. A whole different beast...But Lucasfilm won't forget and they will try to provide some structure to the story whether you like it or not.

I see you all points. Also, thanks for the replies! 👍 But, I just still think we as the fandom and the show runners at LF would do well to leave those films alone for a looonnnggg time. Even if they’re not “officially” de-canonized (though they should be, considering they tossed out the EU). But, on the bright side, RFR is still very fun to listen to, and the Mando-verse is still really good so far, so we at least have that going for us! I don’t mean to be a Debbie-downer, I just can’t stand the Disney Trilogy, and would rather leave it to the past. To let bygones be bygones Take care, everyone

I am 51 minutes in on the episode, so I don’t know if this will be brought up. This detour in the episode seems like it was for the Rangers show. I get the feeling that Gideon has planted Imps into the New Republic and the Rangers we’re going to root them out. Just my thoughts.

Bolder Boulder

That what it seems to me He’s trying to keep anyone from revealing critical information

Rebel Force Radio

I’m just trying to put your mind to ease. The notion that the return of Palpatine ruined the prophesy of The Chosen One is a low priority. The films do not tell the story of The Chosen One. It’s a story about a family. Lucas may have expanded on the Chosen One if he made the sequels. But he didn’t.

Gotta be honest here, the more this show veers into sequel apologetics (call it filling in gaps if you want—everyone can see they’re trying to make the ST make basic sense at this point), the more I’m just dread-watching these episodes. Mando stuff, great; sequel stuff, poisoned chalice. We’re 22+ years from the radar-blip that was the ST, so this show should stand alone without having to carry that unbearable weight. Shame that we have to hear rise of the resistance on Coruscant at this time, for example—it makes no sense for the core world of the New Republic to be Reaistance-aligned, until you see who’s doing sound design for the series now. And can we talk about the thick characterization for Elia? Is there anyone who didn’t see her as SUS from the start of this episode, because I have a bridge to sell in Sault Ste. Marie…… okay, rant over.

David

I feel like if anything, sequel gaps like this episode can improve the sequel trilogy - much like how Clone Wars the animated series improved the prequels for many people. I loved this episode and thought it was filled with great character moments and a fresh perspective on the state of the galaxy, as opposed to Mando’s adventure of the week

Great thoughts, Valentin and Blake! It's our very first real look at the New Republic...and it makes me feel uneasy? Bad first impression. Lol When I would read the old EU books, the impression I had always gotten, in spite of some bad apples here and there, is that the New Republic was a beacon of hope in a galaxy struggling to put itself back together. What we see in this episode with the mindflare tech doesn't feel quite right.... This is the product of a government led by Mon Mothma, Leia, and others of similar repute (presumably)? It's interesting on the one hand that they would have the tech at all, clearly as an inheritance from the Empire. And while their intentions are good, it's still erasing someone's mind to some extent or another. On the one hand, your left wondering just how bad off some ex-Imperials really were that the NR had to resort to these methods to make them productive members of society again; but on the other, the impression I got from Pershing is that ex-Imperials could change on their own. It is a dangerous middle ground they walk, though, given the Empire's extremes.... The mindflare sounds compassionate on the surface, but to do it against someone's will...? And if they were really compassionate, why did they have the dial on the machine able to be cranked so much? Lol I don't get it. Maybe it's a hint that this tech is gonna be gotten rid of in due time because of the ethics of it all. I don't know. Just parsing it out.

Well, to be fair, Valentin, there were a number of big ships full of them before the end of TLJ. Lol But I get ya. The opening crawl of TFA makes it clear that Leia had to secretly lead this ragtag group to fight the growing First Order as the only ones who believed they were a threat. There didn't seem to be that many, like you said. And that has never set well with me since seeing that film. It just doesn't seem authentic, somehow. Maybe I just need to think about it some more, but to me I expected people to rejoice in not having tyrants stamp them down and would gladly lead the way to preserve their hard fought freedoms. Not to get too political, but that would be like in the real world if a dictator fell, the country was renewed to a free state, but the remnants of the dictatorial regime started amassing again on the new state's borders...and the new state's leaders just stopped caring in spite of the remnants' growing military complex and other clear signs they weren't through. It can happen, obviously. And has happened. And continues to happen. Yet, SW is a fairytale genre, no? The impression I always got is that it veered away from "realism" and more into the ideal. And I never got the impression at the end of ROTJ that the new government our heroes would set up would be anything less than the heralded "golden age" so many looked for for so long.

Sean W. from Warsaw

I'm still pretty far behind on these episodes, but I thought, what the heck! Anyone ever make the thematic connection that Pershing is in the same opera house talking about, essentially, creating life...? Can't be an accident!
