It appears the upcoming AHSOKA series will continue storylines originally presented in STAR WARS REBELS, so many fans are rewatching the series in preparation. RFR V.I.P. Jamie Bruno is one of those fans and he just binged the first season in just one day. Jamie shares his thoughts and observations about season one as we look forward to AHSOKA. Being a good "Star Wars Dad", Jamie is doing the rewatch with his young son Caleb, who also jumps into the conversation. Plus, we talk about surviving STAR WARS through the dark times of the mid-80s thru early 90's, Indiana Jones, our favorite Spielberg films and more.

Note to RFR ALL ACCESS: RFR Q&A is audio only this time, so no video.

On my rewatch, I’m in the middle of season 2

Luke

Just finished a full rewatch. It was great to get a good catch up on those characters

I was looking for a sign to do a rebels rewatch, and this was it. It’s always great to hear from the younger fans, and I’d love to see a Roundtable with people like Blake, and Caleb and the other RFR kids.

Turtle Wars

I hope to listen to this Q&A tonight. I recently finished a complete rewatch of every Clone Wars and Rebels episode. There’s so much good stuff in those two series. I’m working on a rewatch of Bad Batch right now, and then will do Tales of the Jedi, and anything else I can fit in before the Ahsoka premier.

This was great as I just finished my Rebels rewatch a couple weeks ago. I basically binged the last season over the course of two days. I initially started it to gauge my two year old, Rieekan's interest in it. Surprisingly, she paid attention to it at times.Hopefully I'm up to speed again for Ahsoka. Great listen!

Rebels is such a tough watch for me

I’ll always say it Rebels is my personal favorite piece of Star Wars content. I think Jimmy Mac hit on the head on why people really adore it. I love the following around one group for 4 seasons. I fell in love with a lot of the characters. After listening to the Q&A it made me remember that I was in high school when this show was coming out. And I started watching during season 3’s release. So Ezra and Sabine were probably around my age or a bit older. To this day I still view Hera and Kanan as Mom and Dad figures. Ahsoka is a Ahsoka. Idk how else to put it but the crew just always brought me hope in life.

Thanks for the great listen, Jamie! Inspired me to get off my butt and show the wife the highlight episodes of “Rebels” before “Ahsoka” drops next month.

I finished my Rebels re-watch a month or two ago. I thought the show was pretty solid. Especially the first and 4th seasons, since they were shorter and didn’t have as much filler as the middle two season did. I’m still not the biggest fan of Inquisitors, but they worked decently well as villains for the show

Just finished listening. Great convo! I've watched the whole series either twice over before I was married, then once more to show my wife, a few years ago. She really liked the series, and I do like it...but for as much as I've seen it, for some reason I can't say I have an especial fondness for it. Lol I much prefer Clone Wars. Somehow it feels more "honest", if that makes sense. Rebels it good, but it feels more like a Saturday morning cartoon sometimes. So did CW sometimes, too. But for some reason I didn't get the impression Lucas and Filoni were cutting corners the way I felt Rebels was. That being said, I do like following the same group of characters on a linear story. But I also really missed the unexpected adventures you got from CW, which really broadened the scale of the storytelling and the war. Rebels was more personal. It's ultimately a matter of taste, in the end. But I never really got a good sense of the scale of the forming of the Rebellion by just following a small group. Lothal is essentially supposed to represent the model planet of rebellion, but I think in the end I would have wanted to see a few other planets' struggles in some detail, too. Other characters that stick around. But still good, all around.

Jimmy Mac talking about Thrawn at the end always cracks me up! But he has a good point. I never fully got a good impression that there was a payoff for all those times in the show when he said his master plan lines. The payoff didn't have that umph to it the way the original books did. In the books, you always (or at least, I always) had a good impression that Thrawn really was several steps ahead of the heroes, so he always felt like a truly intimidating character whenever he would successfully thwart the heroes' plans--which almost always happened in the books. I don't recall him ever really losing or having a screw-up--which pays off so well by the end of the trilogy because he really would have won were it not for the twist at the end. But I never really got that same vibe in the show. I guess we'll see how it pans out in live action, but I am a bit worried. I can tell when Zahn is writing Thrawn and when somebody else is. But still excited to see what they do!

Great show fellas. Well done!

Great show Ditto we have completed the rewatch last week or so. Twilight of the apprentice part 1 but mainly 2 are possibly some of the best star wars ever. Question… you discussed how films which don’t get released make more for the company than those which do, what is the logic here? Is it against insurance or something? Cheers

Scott St. Louis

Jamie, thank you, as always, for bringing great content and questions into the conversation.

This was a great episode, love that we’re coming back to Star Wars Rebels and that it dovetailed with myQ&A this week. I think Rebels is one of the pinnacles of Star Wars moral story-telling. I’m going to start my rewatch tonight!

Jared Cantor

Late to the party, but this was a great episode Jamie! If the seasons are really that short, I could try to sneak in an entire rebels rewatch before Ahsoka. But realistically, I'd probably end up starting Ahsoka series while still trying to get through this rebels rewatch.

Eric from Phoenix

Great discussion guys! I like Rebels but didn’t love it, however, it was the first Star Wars my daughter got into. We watched every episode together and it was so much fun to watch her reactions and hear her speculations. Rebels will always have a special place in my heart because of the father / daughter bonding time.
