The STAR WARS saga has always been focused on mentor/apprentice relationships, such as Luke and Ben or Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan.  Much of the knowledge passed between Master and Padawan can easily be applied to the real world. RFR V.I.P. Marty returns to the Q&A to lead us in a conversation focused on those very lessons and more!

Oh wow, this sounds right up my alley. This is the sort of thing where my mind constantly goes: Moral lessons and the impact things like this make on our own lives. Starting this one now!

Listened to this one before work this morning. Nice discussion and topic Marty! I think the great thing about life lessons is that we all perceive, process, and learn (or not learn) from them in our own ways. Our individual focus definitely determines each of our realities. Right, wrong…good, bad, it’s all subjective perceptions that continually change throughout space and time. A SW example of this comes from one of DJ’s personal perception life lessons in TLJ: “Good guys, bad guys, made up words. This guy was an arms dealer. Made his bank selling weapons to the bad guys…oh…and the good. Finn, let me learn you something big. It’s all a machine partner. Live free, don’t join”. Or when Palpatine says to Anakin “If one is to understand the great mystery of the Force, one must study all its aspects, including the dark side”. From Palpatine/Sidious’ perspective as a master manipulator and eventually extremely successful Sith Lord, he wasn’t exactly wrong. Even all forms of consequences (positive, neutral, or negative) are perceived differently from individual to individual. Great stuff!

"Do it. Just do it!" Well, you did it again, Marty. As the rest of the gang here was saying, I loved the deep conversation you guys had. Keep 'em coming. Great job!

Really good this week !

Loved the episode and discussion. Very pleased by JMac's mention of drummer Neal Peart from Rush as an example of the "keep learning and getting better" lesson. Not only did Neal Peart, one of the best rock drummers of all time, continue to practice, but he continued to study under teachers, including Freddie Gruber (1994-1995) and Peter Erskine (2007). Very Jedi-like, reminiscent of how the greats (Luke, Obi-Wan, Yoda) continued to learn from the Force Ghost Jedis after their death!

Just finished this episode. You guys really knocked this one out of the park! It's conversations like this which prove how relevant SW has always been. Thanks so much for the thoughtfulness behind everything!

Move over Qui-Gon with your ‘focus determines your reality’. Hot cheetos determine your reality now! Great job Marty, definitely wise beyond your years and you sound like a fantastic teacher and the next generation are safe in your capable hands.

Great episode!! Thanks JMac for providing the space and thanks Marty for a great topic!

Thanks for the encouragement, Trevor. You'll be delighted to hear, then, I'll be recording with Jimmy on Monday the 18th! So just a few more days, man! 👍

Great discussion guys! I wonder if Project Necromancy is Thrawn’s plan to raise the Nightsisters to use them to defeat the New Republic? Bossk and the other BH’s from Empire should’ve shown up somewhere in the live action series on Disney +. I thought for sure they would show up in The Book of Boba Fett. I don’t understand why creators wouldn’t want to use them. Already cool and have a chance to give old school fans something to love. I just don’t get it. I loved them showing up in Clone Wars.

The truly educated never graduate from continued learning, training and development.

They missed a prime opportunity in bringing some of the bounty hunters from ESB when Boba was looking for help to build his little crew. Instead they gave more screen time to the Spy Kids crew.

Eric from Phoenix

Exactly. Just think how much better the show would’ve been if you swap out those characters? Would’ve loved to see a Magnificent 7 take in that series.

This episode was fantastic! I quoted you Marty yesterday from this episode, in fact, “ show me your friends and I will show you your future.” I shared this with my 12 year old daughter as we are talking about the importance of good friends. Great stuff, looking forward to many more episodes with you, Marty!

Great great episode Marty !! Really love when my SW podcast makes me think and this one certainly did that. One life lesson from SW I have taken to heart is Yoda’s attempt to give guidance to Anakin about death: “Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not. Attachment leads to jealousy. The shadow of greed, that is.” It has helped me deal with loss of loved ones in a more positive way over the years.
