Hey guys,

The issue has been resolved with the OSX version of 0.4.2.1, so you OSX users can now re-download the version from the pre-existing link.

The issue seems to be with the OSX compiler on the Windows version of Unity, so it seems like it's a problem with Unity itself.  I transferred the project over to my Macbook Pro and compiled it there, and it seems to be running just fine.

I will continue to do this for the next few builds, and hopefully Unity will resolve the issue in newer versions.

I just download this build and there are no characters in the game, like no other people in the house at all. However, I can interact with things now .

That is really strange. Did you try re-downloading it? I just re-downloaded and tested here, and all is OK. Also, are you sure the application is not running with any restrictions on permissions? A lot of the content is being moved to file-based with the addition of the Story Creator. Also, make sure the application has access to the internet as well, as I am building in an in-game check for new stories (though that isn't 100% working yet, but I'm just trying to rule out any errors that might be happening).

It is actually doing the same thing for me. The first quest shows up as well, but no characters throughout. there's a directory built in ~/ from the installation. I'm wondering does it know to look there for the files?

When did you guys download the build? I put another one out later yesterday, and I think I know what is happening. It's not happening here, but I think I may have cleared it up on your end. On OSX, you should see some files written to: users/username/Eek/HouseParty/Mods/Stories. That's the main story that's being loaded directly from the server, so if you're not seeing those files, that could be why you don't have any characters. I updated the build yesterday with something that I think could cause that to happen. You can also try throwing other custom stories in that folder and see if you are able to choose between them.

Bill S

there's definitely that folder under username/Eek/HouseParty/Mods/Stories/Original Story/ and then hps files within that

eekgames

Ok. It should be able to load that story then. Check to make sure you have "Original Story" selected in the main game screen before you load the game. Also, did you check to make sure your download was from yesterday afternoon at the earliest?

Bill S

yeah still no characters.... this was from the download 0.4.2.1 link below made just now. Sorry :/ When i remove the Original Story or rename it in that directory, it puts another one in its place upon running. I'm definitely selecting original story from within the game.

eekgames

Try this. Create another folder in the same folder where you see the "Original Story" folder. Then re-launch the game. You should see an option to select Original Story, and then the name of the folder you created. Select the new folder in the game, and then select back to Original Story. Let me know if that works. I'm thinking your setting got corrupted and this should force it to update, whereas clicking "Original Story" is not registered as a "change", and won't update the preference. Let me know if that works for you.

Bill S

Hmm. when I do that it doesn't change the options available...I made a copy of the Original Story and renamed it and I also made a blank folder and named it something...in both cases only Original Story shows up in the pulldown menu

Ok. Thanks for the feedback. I will spend some time on this tomorrow morning and see if I can see what's happening. I'm sort of flying blind because it's working on my Macbook. If something stands out and it's an easy fix, I will redeploy a new version tomorrow, and if not, I have another build coming where I've tightened up a lot of the initialization code in a few days at the very least. Thanks for being patient and reporting your findings!

Ok, I've just uploaded a new OSX version for 0.4.2.1. I think I figured out what the problem was. Download this version and see how it treats you. It was uploaded on 2/17/17 @ 10:00AM EST.

Bill S

hey again. just downloaded this morning (2/18) and still same issue. sorry for the bad news. it still is also not seeing any additional folders added into that directory

eekgames

Ok. I'm about to put together a new version of the game. I should have it ready either later today or sometime tomorrow. At this point instead of trying to get an older version working, I will focus on making sure that the OSX version of this new build is working and hopefully it will work without any hiccups on OSX. Sorry about the issues you've been having, but the feedback is helping, and hopefully I'll get you up and running with the new version.

Bill S

sounds good, and no big deal. I've done dev for multiple platforms before and it can be a nightmare. lots of props to you for trying to do it
