Purifier creator commentary pg.73 (Patreon)

The hypodermic I based this design off of has a steel body with a glass barrel. Old style syringes of this era are enormous and terrifying compared to the disposable needles of today, and I chose one like this so that it would make a clearly visible prop. I wanted it to stay in one piece but not be conspicuously intact, so the metal body and needle are badly bent and the glass is cracked. Because color is difficult to get across visually in a monochromatic work, it was important that Tilly reference it specifically. This scene is an important turning point in the narrative as it suggests something more at work than just the epidemic. What this discovery means will be pondered and theorized over the next few pages, and I wonder what readers will assume of the narrative so far...The peculiar device in the last panel I will elaborate on in the next page.
