Where there's smoke, there's Tilly. Getting a sense of what a lab space like this one looks like is challenging. There's plenty of photographs from the era, but they're of different laboratories in different locations from different angles. Something I will have to do in this sequence and henceforth is plan a "set" for the characters and block out how they will inhabit and move within it. This will hopefully make things easier and more sensible. I'm also going to attempt to use more minimal backgrounds in non-splash pages after establishing the environment so I don't drive myself completely crazy doing backdrop after backdrop in fully rendered detail. The light-lined table and jars behind Dr. Farhan is a sort of middle detail level, which will at some point be followed by a low detail one that's just brush strokes. We'll see how it goes!Hearing aids of the kind shown here would have had a bulky external battery, likely carried in a pocket or on a belt. The inclusion of one here is another find from my research that I wanted to include as many technologies have been around longer than may be commonly known.

Hi, Alex. I love the battery block for the hearing aid. I can vaguely recall something like that, used by someone in the early 1960s, when I was little.
