Near the end of last year I posted about placing Purifier on a production holiday until the New Year, and here I am at the end of March finally making a statement about it.Here's the skinny. Covid has hit everyone really, really hard. I don't need to elaborate on that. What it's meant for me is that I'm operating at a fraction of what I used to be capable of, and for both practicality and my own creative sanity I have to allocate my infuriatingly limited energy supply very carefully. I like Purifierand I put a lot of very hard work into making it, but the unfortunate reality is that it's a story that I have gotten very little traction or response from. That response has been positive, but comments and likes trickled in. I realize you mustn't place all your trust in metrics, but as pandemic stress sucked away my capabilities it became harder and harder to justify the amount of work I was putting in making a fully hand inked page every week that nobody seemed to care about. Maybe it needed better publicity, maybe webcomic format didn't suit the style of story, maybe a downer plague story isn't what anyone wants to read in the middle of a real world pandemic. There's a lot of maybes that could be investigated and tested, but again we're back to my personal limitations. Anyway, I am very broken up about it but I think the right call is to shelve Purifier until I can spare enough juice to finish it and finish it properly. And that might involve retooling it to release as a complete book rather than weekly installments. Either way, it's going on ice for now, and the irony of Covid having much to do with it is not lost on me.And now for some good news. That fractional capability I mentioned has been extremely productive. Those of you that are aware of my twitter alt (more on that later) will already know this, but I have been quietly working away on a sexy sci-fi comedy called SpaceShipping. As is typical of my workflow, this was a simple little thing that snowballed into a vibrant and growing cast and setting. It's something I've been having a lot of fun with, which is how I've managed to get the most out of my limitations and I am extremely excited to share. Now, there is one issue to address. While much of the story and worldbuilding is nothing you wouldn't see on TV or at the movies - at least half the content I've been working on is NSFW. There's lewd goofs, space nudity and sexual relations which are quite understandably not everyone's thing - to say nothing of being verboten for minors. I plan to respect that boundary and keep said content clearly marked if not entirely segregated. I'm not yet sure what that will look like, but I wanted to broach the topic and get the discussion started at least. TL:DR is: new project, parts are lewd, much is not, I think it's really fun and I hope you will too. Incidentally, if you are over 18 and would like to take a peek at what I've been up to here's my alt twitter. Last order of business, and I know this has been a really long post so thank you for sticking with it an sticking with me. I will be changing to a single tier patron model beginning in April. Truth is I have always been rubbish at posting to Patreon, but that's mostly because I always have my head down working on something I'm posting to twitter. And that's precisely what this patreon will continue to support. Me, the artist, the person, as I tinker away the wee hours in my little home office. I am tremendously grateful for your support, and I hope that you will join me in the next leg of this bizarre journey I'm on.Thank you!If for some reason you don't follow my main twitter you can find it here.

I will miss Purifier but I understand. You have to do what's best for you.

Robert

I understand about Purifier but I am also happy you have the new space shipping going on. I've been glad to see that too as a suppoter here. I know the NSFW nature is hard but I'd follow to a patreon for that if that is the case or whatever you ultimately decide. I've enjoyed your work and you've had a positive impact on my life. I'll be happy to see your work what ever direction it takes.

Ben Pitman

I'm going to miss Purifier but as someone who also follows your alt Twitter I'm looking forward to laughing at SpaceShipping. And I'm glad that you're taking care of your mental health first.

Sad to see your creativity being sucked away from Purifier, but it's absolutely understandable. I'll wait for it as long as it takes, says a person that began reading the ,song of fire and ice' books over 15 years ago. 🤣 And SpaceShipping has been a real upper for me the last year. Just have to be careful not to look at it accidentally at work.

Oof. : ( I also loved Purifier and I feel I should have made that clearer. I'm really sorry you felt left alone and unappreciated. Those emails with all the commentary were wonderful to read on those days I could manage the energy to actually read my email. Space Shipping sounds great, too. Is Twitter going to be the main way to follow it?

Alex Steacy

Twitter is the main way to follow SpaceShipping for now - though I will be looking at better solution(s)

Purifier and the commentary was indeed something I enjoyed getting in my mailbox every now and then even if I didn't interact with it more than leaving my likes on the postings. Couldn't believe my eyes when I spotted the blue lass from Spaceshipping in the header, thought it was just a wink to the fans but reading the body I'm excited to see where you'll be taking this.

Patrick Lee

Kinda feel bad I didn't say anything earlier, so I'll just say now that Purifier has been pretty cool and interesting, and I'm interested to see where it goes, whenever you feel like getting back to it and in whatever form it might take. Also Spaceshipping has been neat so far, and I'm happy to hear you're feeling inspired!

SONICWOLF

HI Alex, its rough to hear about Purifier, but I commend you for the hard decision and maybe the retooling will give you a bright spark of inspiration in the future that might take in directions you hadn't thought of before that you like and gel with you. Also I figured out your Alt a while ago but didn't want to say anything as I was conflicted as saying "Hey you have really close art to this other person i follow" and the thought of "Hmm maybe its just a coincidence because Alex hasn't been posting much for X reasons "... That aside I'm loving Spaceshipping and want to support you either way.
