They had been kept inside a massive warehouse, each one bearing a heavy steel collar chained to the wall behind them. Their original uniforms were stripped away and replaced with new ones—still athletic gear tied to the sport they practiced, but now belonging to elite teams, custom-made with their names and a strange code underneath.
One by one, they were cuffed, chained again, and escorted to another building… but none ever came back.
—“Sold for fifteen thousand dollars to the Sutterland Apartment Complex!”
The young man still tried to resist the rough handling, but he knew he stood no chance against the towering brutes yanking his chain and dragging him off the platform so the next athlete could take his place.
There would be no rehabilitation for a crime that never existed. No chance at reintegration into society. No more correctional centers, no prisons, no ‘appropriate’ labor camps—at least, not the kind they had imagined.
They were being sold. Like cattle. Like toys. To men, corporations, and powerful entities.
Caleb was the third one taken to the Sutterland Complex. He found out when they threw him into a small cell, and the other boys in the truck started talking.
What fate awaited them?
