Happy New Year Anitra (and Taco!) Aww this was a wonderful surprise. Thank you for bringing Run BTS back. I think you mentioned a while back, you'd maybe start watching Suchwita instead of it but I may be misrembering and that was for when AYS and BV were completed. I love the avatar chef episodes. Some really classic Run BTS episodes to come too.

From what I understand, the soy sauce they were using was brewed soy sauce instead of regular soy sauce - so it's extra fermented, and you likely do not need as much of it as regular soy sauce, so Jin basically just put TOO MUCH soy sauce flavour. Since they didn't specifically mention that it was too salty when they were tasting it in the kitchen, I think the problem was the extra fermented-"umami"-flavour being way too strong. These episodes are always a little hard to watch with how slow Jin and Suga are moving while a clock ticks down. I know that moving slow prevents mistakes... but that obviously didn't prevent the soysauce mistake. So, I'm with Jimin in the "have fun faster" camp lol I always love seeing how much the rest of BTS finds Suga absolutely adorable, while Suga is baffled as to why him making a heart is such a hit in the observation room.

It sounded to me like it was a sweet and sour dish, I wonder if they put to much vinegar in it as well. If so they would need a ton of sugar to fight the sourness too. Especially if it was too salty and sour that would make sense why they had to use so much sugar.

I can totally understand the anxiety when watching this episode. I went through it on my first watch lol. Some info to help... what they were making as the main dish is a combination of three things... first- tangsuyuk which is sweet and sour fried pork that is coated in a thick sauce with carrots and onions usually. They put the wrong amount of vinegar and soy sauce... which is why they added so much sugar. The dish requires a lot of sugar already, but they had to add more to level out the flavor. Second- fried kimchi mixed in and lastly- pizza which is only part of this dish because of the circular shape its served in and the layer of mozzerella cheese on top... so with the kimchi, "pizza" and tangsuyuk... you get kimpitang... which is KIM(kimchi)PI(pizza)TANG(tangsuyuk). Its a popular Korean dish where they tried to incorporate a Western feel with by making it pizza style. Personally, tangsuyuk is one of my favs as a dish alone. Its very pricey at most Korean restaurants... but its so good!!!
