A guess at who those people were that attacked her and took her daughter: This is pretty dark stuff so you be warned a little bit, im just describing the situation not condoning anything, its messed up. Its most probably organized crime, Yakuza related etc The biggest hint is something easily missed, when the flashback/ memories begin she is naked in a bed (hotel?) not at home with cash on the bedside table (Payment?). Very likely she was prostituting herself which in Japan lands you in similar circles as those involved in organized crime. You notice when she gets home she hesitates at the door, this is a sign that she probably is feeling shame about what she is having to do (no other options?). Some assumptions have to be made as it is not stated in the anime. She might have incurred a debt with the yakuza due to her past and now is paying off debt, like Denji in chainsawman you get trapped in huge repayments. Thus she is prostituting herself to make those repayments. She may have spent some of the money that was meant for the yakuza to buy that dress and so didn't have enough, maybe she had been warned before and so they gave up on her and decided the daughter was worth more than the debt repayments....

I Cried several times when i watched it myself, and cried even more on the rewatch. It is so well done, so little needs to be said in the flashback/memories, regret and sudden tragedy

This was so touching and sad... But I'm also left wondering what happened to Aira's friends who were blown away in the last episode? If alive, they are under some of the rubble there.
