I don’t think you could’ve picked a better pair of episodes for a double header! :p I was so looking forward to this little arc and they of course crushed it. I think this was another “damn this series is like actually really good huh?” moment when I read it. For as insane as everything has already been leading up to now, both Mei and especially Iku’s shticks are I feel like the first time we’re seeing Rentarou be openly unsure of how he’s really supposed to proceed. He doesn’t want to boss Mei around and he certainly doesn’t want to hurt Iku, but he’s their soulmate so he loves them and their quirks regardless and has to figure it out somehow. And then we see Kusuri immediately agree to spank Iku because of course she does and it’s like, oh, this is literally turning into an ecosystem that can only work BECAUSE there’s so many people. Really appreciate as well that Iku is a silly masochist but her big serious trauma involved someone ELSE getting hurt. That’s great, subtle characterization. This series has made me actually laugh maybe more than any other anime/manga so I never want to undersell how good of a straight up comedy it is but I just can’t help but find myself fascinated by all the smart detail oriented stuff going on in the background that allows it to actually BE that funny, if that makes sense.

Rimuru Tempest

Shizuka is great, she's got weaponized cuteness, an eldritch being of pure cute. Certainly works on me, I am aware, but I don't care. She's always been the best. Anyways, Iku is great. Behind her masochism she's got a great heart and personality, and fits right in to our family right away. Honestly, this story is a masterclass in characters with personality and the character dynamics and chemistry between each other. It's honestly so good and fun, something I've been personally struggling to find. A show that is just fun and makes me happy.
