Kanna is like concentrated cuteness being injected directly into the heart. If she was real and I met her in real life, I don't think I'd be able to resist dropping all prior commitments and dedicating myself to making her happy.

There IS a manga spin-off. Maybe they'll make it into an anime if season 2 does well.

On first viewing I had to research Kanna's school bag after seeing how expensive it was. Kanna's "randoseru" is 35,000 yen (326.48 US dollars) with some name brands priced at up to 120,000 yen. Why so expensive? There are now mass market alternatives, but the traditional, handmade randoseru is built to last all six years of primary school and then get passed on to the next generation. Before WW2 these randoseru were only worn by the children of the elite. During the post war economic boom it became common among the middle class and a tradition grew for grandparents to begin saving for one when their grandchild was born. The randoseru is a uniquely Japanese symbol and when Kobayashi questioned the expense, she knew the message it would send about Kanna's family. Kanna's real parents abandoned her, as her adopted mother she couldn't take half measures.
