Yeah, in the books they talk a lot about all of the things that Ruti's Blessing has taken away from her, such as sleep, fear, confusion, anything considered a "negative status affect." You really start to feel for her when you consider she spends every night awake by herself. All night. Also, her Blessing is what kept her from running after her brother. It wouldn't let her leave Ares as he was (since he was a "companion," she had to save him), and it also would not let her abandon her mission. There is also a suggestion that Ares had been thinking about a relationship with Ruti for future political gain. As we can see, his plan did not go so well. Also makes more sense why she told the new assassin girl that she had to follow her, not Ares.
