Typhi

This was great too! I had wondered if all of the fourth wall breaks and references were going to make the jump over to the anime (in general, not just this episode) but they’ve really doubled down and even added a bunch. The way they animated Rentaro’s Shelley Duvall impression during The Shining reference cracked me up. Kusuri’s really kind of a wild character, both in the story and just conceptually. She’s basically the personification of that old Simpsons quote about alcohol – ‘The cause of, and solution to, all of life’s problems.’ I do think it’s pretty funny that she’s filling out that whole “looks like a child but is actually a 10,000 year old dragon” trope but...she’s only 18, so she’s not particularly wise or anything. It’s almost like because the gap between her real age and child form is so small (at least in comparison to how the trope is usually played) that it somehow balances out to be a bit mundane. Anything she does in one form could conceivably happen in the other and still kinda make sense. It’s just a very weird but funny way to use the character. Shizuka is so goddamn cute. Hakari picking her up and then Nano grabbing her by the hand made me smile so much, I love how the girls care about each other even when zombies. And speaking of caring about each other…look at Hakari and Karane go! They can play dumb all they want. We know. But it only makes sense, right? Surely you can’t have a 101 person relationship without these sorts of things happening. I would even say that’s probably the desirable outcome in terms of keeping everything happy and healthy. Also, I really have to give credit to the folks doing the subs because Kusuri calling her one drug “Melt-Ya-Face-Off” drug only for her to at the end of the episode tell Rentaro she thought she got out of the ropes because he had a “Melt-Ya-Ropes-Off” drug is genuinely so fucking funny.
