A poem I wrote a couple years ago, whose title is in keeping with the season. –Cam

a haunting

Our house is not so much hauntedas haunting:the ghost of our home looming behind me,settled heavy on my shoulders, not a presence but an absence,a lack like a missing limb.I moved into the other room, put away our photographs —I need to change our passwords, I need to do so much —a million things to avoid the flinch:the fleeting, searing touchof hope that all of this was just a dream,a terrible mistake the universe will realizeif I dream the right dreamand waketo the rightened world.
