Hello! I am in nature for this week's bonus video, briefly. Let's talk about some of the incredibly highlight's of Angela Lansbury's career, including her gay husband, a forgotten gay-romance film she made in the 1970s, and all her tireless work to fight HIV. Also this week: A super bizarre connection between one of the gay killers in Hitchcock's film Rope and the world's first robot. Also, a little tease of bonus content to come: I've got my hands on a 1945 gossip column written by Joan Crawford!

I loved Angela Landsbury in The Court Jester as the Princess. One site lists her as the #2 before Glynis Johns but the film lists her on the third character list.

Hey Matt! Been watching you on Youtube for about 3-4 months now. Joined your Patreon (first one i've ever joined) some weeks ago and I'm absolutely hooked. I'm also a gay man obsessed with cinema, theatre and television. I don't usually tend to comment, but your videos have taught me so many things I didn't know, fascinating me and making me laugh at the same time with some of the funniest anecdotes (the latest ones about James Dean's sex life were priceless). But I decided to comment on this one video precisely because the plot for the movie 'Something for everyone' resembles greatly to the one of the recent British film Saltburn, but I haven't read anyone making the connection. Have you?

mattbaume

Hey welcome aboard! And wow that's a fascinating observation. I haven't seen Saltburn yet but I'll have to check it out & compare, I'm really intrigued!

Dee Chatterton

Farley Grainger's autobiography quite openly talked about his bisexuality.

Lisa M. Williams

Hey Matt, you may have shared this before, but is there a workaround if the Vimeo vid can’t play (says it doesn’t exist). Thanks for any help!

Ryan Mohr

Can’t wait to see the bonus Joan Crawford stuff

mattbaume

Ah geez I really thought they fixed that!!! I added a backup link, let me know if it's still not working.

George Barrett III

That looks much more like John Payne than Ray Milland...

Lisa M. Williams

Backup link works, getting ready to watch now. Thanks!!!

Zardogs! Zardogs!

I knew Angela was cool, I'd seen your other video, but everything I hear just gets more impressive. I should probably just read her biography. Do you honestly believe anyone who's one of your Patreons is going to say "no" to Joan Crawford's life tips?

looks like someone ripped the blueray of something for everyone. there are 720p and 1080p tor..rents around

I use MakeMKV to rip blu-rays for archiving. I was able to watch Angela Lansbury film an episode of MSW while I was a student at Caltech. The episode was "Alma Murder" (I see what you did there, MSW) and it took place at a New England college which Caltech was standing in for. Pasadena is popular for filming because it's close to the film studios and it has lots of quaint tree-lined streets that could be almost anywhere. The houses could be in the Midwest or New England as long as you don't get a palm tree in frame- something which the original Halloween failed to do if you look closely! For MSW, they just had to point the camera to the parts of the campus that had tons of pine trees and "Voila!" it's New England. At the end of one day of filming, Angela Lansbury stayed to sign autographs for staff and students who were watching the filming. She said it was the least she could do for "disrupting" the campus. I got her to sign one of my textbooks. Such a fine lady.

another vote for makemkv, it works very well, it's very fast (it doesn't re-encode the video just copies) and it's super simple. You don't need a special drive or anything I just use some random cheap usb drive from amazon if you want it to work for more than a month you either have to re-download it or give the developer a few bucks, but it's worth it if you do this often

Matt Porges

You didn't get to mention Beauty and the Beast, where she starred with David Ogden Stiers (who was succeeded as Cogsworth by Ian McKellan)

Greg Brobeck

MakeMKV. It's free and works great for encrypted BluRay movies.

Robert Brande

If we are mentioning somewhat obscure and impacts of Angela Lansbury, Matt please don't forget her campy triumph in Bedknobs and Broomsticks which has inspired witchy gay children since 1971 :)
