Hello there!

In this week's bonus video, we're diving into the tub with Alfred Hitchcock to explore the famous shower sequence in Psycho -- how he made it, why it looks so good, and why the numerous imitators never quite measure up.

Excited for this video and the Tab Hunter! I remember in the spring you mentioned a Sondheim video coming soon. Is that still being worked on?

Still in the works, there's just a lotttttt of Sondheim stuff to talk about so research just keeps expanding.

Good lord. On one hand ... culturally, that strikes me as a totally normal (or at least normalized) thing for a British man of a certain generation to say to a fidgeting child. On the other ... they're co-workers, and AH was BM's boss! What a shitty way to treat a professional colleague who's working for him!

Jackie Schneider

Happy to oblige. Their two most recent albums ("The Silver Scream" and "Welcome to Horrorwood") all have songs based on different horror movies; they're great listening for the spooky season.

Joseph Coppola

Ice Nine was an especially deadly ice crystal that raised the melting point of ice and when exposed to liquid water created a spontaneously cascading process that turned the entire world's oceans into a frozen wasteland in Kurt Vonnegut's novel Cat's Cradle. There's something of the absurd deviancy of Vonnegut in this band's work imo.

Robert E. Stutts

If you've never see the documentary "78/52" directed by Alexandre O. Philippe, I highly recommend it (it's all about the "Psycho" shower scene--the title refers to the number of set-ups [78] and cuts [52] in the scene)

This synth pop song "Norman Bates", with a fantastic video was just played on a music stream I watch regularly. The synchronicity! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zthChjUe1II I feel like they really 'get' it and touch on so many of the visual elements you mention!
