Hello and welcome to another Educational Article!

Today I wanna share with you a few tips about how to find illustration agencies & shops for your work.

Submitting your work to agencies or shops may be scary in the beginning and you need to be aware that you may get no answers from most agencies as they are getting A TON of portfolios every single day.

So firstly I recommend making a list where you can write in the agencies and contacts you have found with the information if you have submitted your work there, when you have submitted it, and if you got an answer. Because just because you haven´t gotten an answer now does not mean that you can´t try it again in a year or so! Your work is improving all the time so please try again after a while, also if you get a no answer!

I also split my list into children's book agencies and surface design agencies.

1. How to find Illustration Agencies or Agents

So the easiest way to find agencies is through googling! Just search for "children's book agency" or  "surface design agency" , or publishing houses, and you will find a lot!

Most of them also already have a site on their website where you can submit your work or find the right email address to do so!

As you can see here on the main menu:

Publishing houses mostly have that info at the end of the website.

If a publishing house doesn´t have that info on their website you can write them asking for the right email contact to submit your work!

Another way to find agencies is of course through social media!

Nearly all Art Agents are on LinkedIn and most agencies or publishing houses also have Instagram!

It just takes a bit more effort to find them on there than on google :) But when you find an agency on Instagram its algorithm will show you more agencies that you can follow.

There is also a book available every year, the "Children’s Writers’ & Artists’ Yearbook".

There´s already one published for 2024! It includes A LOT of agencies with contact to submit your work!

It´s a bit expensive but definitely worth it!

And last but not least we also have the Make Art That Sells classes that are made by Lilla Rogers, who is an Agent. She always invites the best students from her courses to be part of her art agency which is really amazing!

Of course, you can also go to the nearest bookstore and write down all the book publishers that you think your illustrations might be suitable for! Then all you have to do is search for the email addresses!

The most important thing is definitely to research each agency, agent, and publisher thoroughly and only submit your work to them if you truly believe it fits there!!

2. How to find Shops to submit your work

To find shops that sell wallpapers or any other things with cute art that they let produce is a bit more difficult as most shops just buy already finished stock.

But:

You can still find lot´s of them on google or social media!

Check out other artists' collaborations to find such shops!

When you´re shopping in stationery shops check out the back of the products for a website!

Use websites like Faire Wholesale
