Hello and welcome back to a new Educational Article!

I´m very late with posting this, my shop preparations last week took way longer than I expected. But I hope you are still excited about this article!

So today I wanna talk a bit about how to prepare a product collection. I don´t do "real" collections thaaaat often but I definitely think that this is a great way to bring your products out there and that a lot of people do buy multiple items from a collection's theme.

If you don´t already know Catherine from Katnipp Studios, she always makes amazing product collections so definitely check out her shop for inspiration!

So let´s get into it!

1. Searching for ideas and inspiration

I always start by searching for ideas and inspiration, not only when working on a collection but also when making single products.

Your collection should have a theme! All the items within it should fit together in a way that your customers directly identify them as this particular collection.

The easiest way for your first collection is to choose a holiday like Halloween. Or something else simple like a movie, era, or season.

2. Listing theme elements

Then I list down all the elements that could fit my theme. That way it´s easier for me to sketch afterwards.

These could be the following:

colors

objects

places

textures

patterns

scents

fonts

animals/people

symbols

feelings

3. Making a Moodboard

Now it´s time to create a moodboard!

This is one of my favorite parts of the process as I just loooove creating moodboards!

I use my saved ideas and inspirations as well as the theme elements list to make a moodboard or more, it depends on if I have chosen more color palettes that I want to use.

4. Thinking of the product types you want to include

Now you can decide which product types you want to include in your collection!

Should it be a stationery collection only then you can choose cards, notepads, stickers, sticky notes, notebooks, sticker sheets, and more.

During this step, it can also be good to ask your followers what kind of products they prefer buying!

5. Sketching your Ideas (messy and then more detailed)

Now it´s time for sketching!

First I sketch down all my ideas veeery veeeery messy. Just do get everything down on paper (or my iPad).

Then I pick the ones I like the most and make more detailed sketches.

6. Creating

And now we can start creating our collection!

During this step, you can also ask your followers and make polls to get to know what they like and prefer!

Take your followers with you during creating, this is also good marketing upfront for your products! Share as much as you can of the process! I know this is hard and I also very often forget about that but it is just the best way of making your customers excited for your products!
