Pip has to put on the glasses to get into the legal quagmire of Copyright X3

Kevin Dermody

Yes, let's. Copyright laws, like anything else, can be abused, but the purpose of them is to make sure that someone's hard work isn't stolen and exploited by someone else. And if you think the creator is charging too much for HIS product, don't buy it. Simple as that.

Ben Russell-Gough

Yeah. This has the smell of munificent unintended consequences.

Three possibilities I see happening: 1.) This plays out nromally with a few 'hijinx' thown in for a little slice of life humor. Safe, but short and simple. 2.) They get embroiled in some government regulations agency taking this way too seriously and/or fall down a rabit holl of conspiracy like the James Cameron plot. 3.) The Squirrel Girls get involved and their crazy science to 'digitize' the movies ends up digitzing one or more of the rest of the cast leading them to be inserted into the films and having to 'act out' their assigned roles in order to escape.

My brother is doing just that for our house. Bought a mini computer and stripped it down to act as a personal server and installed a media program on it to sort and access the movies and tv shows via the house's local wireless. Last we checked in the US as long as you own a physical copy you are free to do what you want with it as long as you're not trying to make money from it, so we only have stuff on the server that we physically own. If we want new films we'll still go and buy it first.
