I do see AI generated images as a fad. Yes, AI will certainly be USED, it's never going away, but its main application will eventually only be in cheap commercial use. Industrialisation has never diluted the value of human-made art. If you want an example; look at garden ornaments. Concrete, mould-cast replicas of classic sculpture. There's a reason they have a dinky price tag and the originals are SLIGHTLY more valued.

I guess Spirograph is less AI and more procedurally generated... and of course then there's the Spirograph's big big big big big siblings, like Tooll 3: https://github.com/still-scene/t3

And right now there's a class action suit against the major players in the "AI art" realm. We'll see what happens when that gets to court.

AI Art isn't art, and will never replace web comics, but it _is_ fun. I use it to send weird images to friends pertaining to what we're talking about. For example, during a discussion about ramen I input the prompt "Bowl of ramen containing the secrets of the universe" and got this, which really energized the conversation: https://cdn.midjourney.com/45795495-9cbf-4ae1-b9ae-17044925e86b/grid_0.png
