Something I’ve been thinking about is Freddie’s financial concerns and how they relate to his brother. Obviously people with down’s syndrome are not a monolith and can have many independent capabilities. But with Freddie’s mom getting older and his brother needing some type of care likely for the rest of his life, financially the family has to have a plan. Idk I could be wrong.

Freddie is a funeral director. If the UK is similar to the US in this regard, those tend to be family businesses that span generations. So, his money may very much be tied to his continued reinvestment in the business and the business asset itself. In that case, it makes sense that unless/until he has children to pass those assets to, he wants to keep it with a blood relative who is part of that legacy. Even tho he is saying "my money," I would be willing to bet that for show purposes, he is using those words, but what he is really talking about is his assets, specifically the family business. I have seen this in my profession (attorney). To keep the business in tact, they will leave the spouse a specific amount of money. So, it's not like she won't get anything. The business asset is what the person wants to keep among the family (siblings, mom/dad, aunts, uncles, whomever).

This is exactly it. He has said that he will be caring for his brother if/when his mother passes, so it makes sense that his sister would be caring for their brother if Freddie is gone. So of course he would want Betsy-Dora to get his money to help care for his brother.

I’m surprised we haven’t learned anything about his job as a funeral director. I’ve been wondering if it’s a family business. It always seems like it’s either that or the person dealt with a significant loss and was inspired to get into the business. But maybe not. I just think it’s interesting and would like to know more!

As a funeral director, Freddie’s probably seen some INTENSE family drama (and probably a fist fight or two) over non existent or out of date wills. He probably doesn’t want financial decisions made for a vulnerable family member by someone he’s only know for 6weeks.

Maria can explain her values and culture over and over again but it doesn’t change the fact that Tom doesn’t see things that way. I feel Iike she thinks something will click if she says it enough. She is entitled to those views and values but repeating it isn’t going to change someone who is fundamentally different.

Hot take: I do believe Sabrina and Steven say yes. I do believe they are in love. But as a child free woman myself, I dont see Sabrina actually being ok with surrogacy. I fully believe she doesn't want children. I think in the pods she had a fear of rejection again. Dating child free is so hard. I think she is hoping Steven will love her enough to over look children. I really hope their marriage lasts, but this is a tough situation to overcome.

I’d say she has a valid concern. It’s a common issue when moving into another’s house. You can make a legal agreement that she gets half what she paid back if she moves out or half the increased home equity etc. I wouldn’t want to be paying someone else’s mortgage either - if you break up you have nothing while they’ve gained 10’s of thousands in equity
