Poodle is so right about the hospitality culture in the Middle East, South Asia, etc. We live in Egypt and my husband has been in Dubai for a month. His family come to my flat every two or three days with food and stuff like that, even though I’m ok! It’s getting kind of overwhelming but I just try to be grateful and take it in the spirit it’s intended. They would have preferred I stayed in their home the whole time, but on that I had to say no. Jenny does need to conform and bend to Indian culture to a reasonable and respectful extent, because she’s in their country, but she’s also an American. It’s about navigating and finding that balance, which is hard to do when both sides are so stubborn and set in their ways. Totally agree that she probably doesn’t make friends easily and has a hard time with accountability. I thought I read that she wasn’t very accepting of her lesbian daughter at first and only came around with time, so if there are scars in that relationship it’s no wonder she’s not super eager to go home and return to the reality of whatever life she had in America.

Yeah, it’s an extremely brutal conflict with a lot of war crimes being committed. They’re also in a standoff with Egypt on a separate issue. Ari said people were killed in their own street during protests. I thought her sister spoke in a condescending way but the actual content of what she was saying was sadly accurate. Health and education outcomes are not good in Ethiopia and there is civil unrest and war right now. She’s from Princeton FFS. Of COURSE that’s how they see it.

Y’all when you said “find an orphan” I literally came. My long term bfs entire family is insane but especially his mother lol we always joke that if we ever have kids and they ask about their grandparents we’re gonna say “well daddy was an orphan sweetie” 😂 They say a man who is good to his mother is a good thing but if I ever left my bf, it’d be a red flag from now on... The "second best bed" was the marital bed, so not a slight during that time, it was actually believed to be an act of tenderness since they would have shared that bed/had sex/where she birthed the children. The "best bed" and other best furniture, dishes, etc would have been left to the family heir/children.

I have a friend who used to sell Kirby’s a few years ago!! They don’t go door to door anymore but they cold call people and set up appointments to vacuum their house in hopes they’ll purchase the Kirby at the end. My friend actually liked it they just screwed her over with her commissions so she quit haha

So I have Indian business partners, staying with them in Delhi is so nice and I’m pampered…when they come to my house…😑😑😑😑 it’s so painful. It’s really just the culture. But damn…when they told me the espresso wasn’t hot enough at like 6am😐almost broke me!
