Oh, 100% river started the fight! He fucked around and found out, you don't slap a lamp into somebody's face unless you're ready to get hit Also recall that they let his grandma cook all day over a wood fire (!!) only to stay in the van and completely snub her. Unforgivable imho. If someone did that to my grandma I'd fight them at the drop of a hat (the slap of a lamp?) too

The consensus on Reddit at the time was that River started the fight. Twitter was more 50-50 (they apparently had a live after show after the episode with Loren and Dinyel ?!). I have to say though, ambushing your guests like that while they are eating is one of the worst things I can imagine. That felt so wrong.

I recall reading somewhere that sometimes when law enforcement is called to break up a fight (mutual combat) and they are trying to determine where to place blame for instigating a fight, that sometimes its not always a matter of who touched who first. Rather, sometimes, they will look try to look at the action that triggered the first physical reaction. In this case, River and Pedro were mutually mouthing off, but River was the one who hit the lamp in their direction, so I think he possibly would be the one who would be blamed for actually starting the physical altercation and not Pedro. Obviously, it can vary between agencies and officers, but I have heard of some LEO's taking that approach. I never realized though that River used the N word!
