There is also an Amish population in Missouri. When they built the new Walmart in the town over, they added covered buggy parking.

Beth Colston

Danny drank Drano when he was 18 months and it also scarred his face. His parents wouldn’t allow him to get any surgeries to correct the damage.

Brenna Parhad

Return to Amish is the Breaking Amish spin-off! Which i think is just because everyone except Jeremiah left the show so they made it a new thing, but it’s the same basic show. One of the girls on the current season is either a cousin or a sibling of someone from the first season of Breaking Amish And now I’m going to reevaluate my life for knowing this

Dara Medina

The state song of Tennessee is The Tennessee Waltz. The first line of The Tennessee Waltz is, “I was dancing with my darling to The Tennessee Waltz”. This is a circular reference that has bothered me since I was a child. I need Poodle to help me process this.

Courtney

Ohio sissy here who lives in the Netherlands and speaks Dutch and some German. We have a large Amish population in NE Ohio. The language is not Dutch; it is German. Called Pennsylvania Dutch. High German speakers have a difficulty understanding them because it is an old dialect.

Moy

When Mattie reframed his mom's makeup hoarding as 'over purchasing,' I felt so seen.

Whitney allen

Boyz-Daniels dental sitch is because when he was a small child he drank bleach or drainino & it burned & ate his flesh. His parents refused too allow any cosmetic repairs 🙁. Also dental work-the norm is removal of ALL teeth if they find a cavity. That’s y so many young people have I’ll fitting dentures 🙁

Arden

Fun fact: I once met someone who dealt in Amish buggies. Apparently many are totally pimped out inside (padded silk velvet walls a la Dangerous Liaisons opera boxes ) - a gift to be simple my ass!

I went to a progressive Quaker boarding / day school. A barn on our campus burned down in my senior year & it was rebuilt by Mennonite contractors. I spoke with a few of them since I did work at the stables. Of course it was all men and young boys with flip phones lol. If you’re in Philly there is a food market and you HAVE to pick up some bacon from them, they do amazing meat — that’s where you’ll see the girls and women. I have unfortunately seen recent documentary series ‘ Sins Of The Amish’ about Amish communities and abuse / child marriages similar to LDS communities where there is a culture of non reporting and child labor. There’s a lot less focus on this in the media IMO because they are isolated in plain sight. Unlike modern fundie communities whose doctrine has them on some world domination eugenics type of agenda .. anyway — like Poodle I am obsessed with cults and religious communities. FASCINATED. La Luz Del Mundo is a great one with a docu on HBO & you may be able to find a few branches in LA

You suck! I googled “the kiss” 🤢 I’m an idiot for doing this. Mary-Payne would quit podcasting if she had to review this. Well done queens

Also, let us never forget that Jeremiah wants another baby but already has 3 kids with his first wife that he doesn’t see

Peggy Ann

Quiet quitting is what corporations and media called not going above and beyond in your job. Basically doing your job based on the job description because your bosses treat and pay you poorly

Yep! I'm in Missouri and bought a farm in the middle of nowhere. My only neighbor is Amish. They are so nice. I trade them electricity for hay. I pay for the electricity that runs their well and heaters for the troughs in the winter and have it hooked up to my line/account and he brings hay for my animals. Love them. The only concerning thing is that they are allowed to use trucks for farming/work purposes and the 2 times I have seen his wife she is riding in the front seat with a baby on her lap. Makes me so nervous.

Emily

I know the men in the Amish community here have beards if they are married and are clean shaven if single. They don't wear jewelry so this is how you can tell who is taken.

I’m a SW Ohio Sissy. I’m taking my daughters to Berlin, OH in a couple months. To one of the treehouses. Just a girls weekend. Do you know that area? Any recommendations?

Carey Addis

I’m still pouting over Farmer Wants A Wife not being covered. I’m obsessed.

DJ Nightshade

Correction note, Jake!: they don’t speak “Dutch” as it means to us (the official language of the Netherlands). Pennsylvania Dutch is derived from German (Deutsch). Modern Amish trajectory has little to do with the Netherlands directly, but rather Germany and Swiss Germany. Whereas mennonites can be traced to Anabaptism in Holland. Amish broke off from Mennonites in Europe before the migration here. Even though Dutch is a Germanic language, German is not similar enough to be interchangeable. However German speakers can generally pickup Penn Dutch, but couldn’t quite have a conversation. There’s some vids on YouTube of Germans reacting to Penn Dutch which is fun for language lovers. Anyway, I figured you’d wanna know cuz this is NOT a mistake you can allow yourself to make in front of other etymological/glot nerds 🤣

Gosh darn it! I’ve never seen this show before so I watched it for the bi curious and now I’m invested!!!! 😭😭😭 Those young ladies radiate pureness and grace!

Jill
>>107469243

AND Jeremiah’s wife has been a grandmother since the first season she appeared on!

Jill
>>107471449

“Pennsylvania Dutch” is based on a misunderstanding of the term Deutsch.

Jill
>>107515007

Is it safe to assume this was your first encounter with Carmela?

Jill

I love this series and love that y’all covered an episode! Since we’re being all “actually,” Breaking Amish wasn’t about Rumspringa. They were older and had mostly already done that. You find out later that the “budding young love” between Abe and Rebecca (Eeb and Reebaykka) was kind of fake because they already had a kid together that was conveniently never mentioned when he asked her on a “first date.” Sabrina (Mennonite) and Jeremiah (Amish) were both adopted from English birth mothers. Sabrina later goes to discover her Puerto Rican family, and when Jeremiah tried to find his birth dad last season that storyline turned out to be pretty depressing and not even funny. The whole TLC-Amish world is worth bingeing IMO. They’re pretty much all monsters, but in a refreshing way, like not even a backwards upbringing can depress the human spirit. These dorks absolutely have it in them to get wasted and hook up, God bless ‘em. Kate Stoltz(fus) is a professional Grade A home-grown bitch who peaced out pretty early in the series.

That’s amazing! I don’t dislike her but I’ve seen her be a bit ratchet throughout the years.

Jill
>>107483826

This! I’m from Philly and my partner is from Amish country, Lancaster, PA. They’re often seen as “wholesome” but they treat their women like absolute trash.

Shannon Rush

The Mattie freak out had me laughing so hard! My first laugh since my spinal surgery. It was incredibly painful to laugh that hard but I’m going to listen again. Worth it. 💜

Oh really, when!? I only remember her being so supportive of Jeremiah even when he was a jerk, and supporting his relationship with Sabrina. She survived a cult, she's been through a lot!

Ruby Melissa Ward

The Minninites can throw down on some food!!! Some of the best food I have ever had came from a Minninite Cafe.

Ali Balki

Poods, you should def go back and watch this full season. Also, the whole show 🤣. I only started watching a few cause you guys were going to cover it and now I can’t stop!! I also super duper love cults and sister wives like you, so I think you’ll enjoy. I just started season 7

Alicia Andrews

Which episode is Maureen’s first kiss with what’s-his-tooth? I think I need to subject myself to that. 🫣

Jennifer Riester
>>107471449

I was just coming on to say all of this. Not only do we have a large Amish population, we have had some very famous Amish crimes.

Jennifer Riester
>>107502565

I tried replying to your comment about coming to Berlin. I would check out Orrville which is nearby and home of Smuckers.

Jean Bookout

Dead ringers. So so good !!!

Cassie Hulse

Not me thinking Mattie was going to say "beautiful Quaker oatmeal" instead of "beautiful Quaker furniture" 🤣🤣 I'm in NE Oklahoma and there is large Amish community out here. If you're driving to towards the Vinita turnpike McDonald's from Tulsa, stop off in Chouteau for the Amish Cheese House!

Jennifer Riester

FYI - Maureen just announced she was pregnant in an episode a couple of weeks ago and Danny was able to get it done 🤣 Mattie's freak out was the hardest I laughed since you all were attacked by the bird/moth. A video of that reaction would have been gold!!! Thanks for covering the kiss!!!

Jill

The cold open of the kiss has me sobbing

Jill
>>107579153

It’s so funny listening to you guys talking about this because it’s such a niche community. My boyfriend grew up surrounded by the Amish in Lancaster. It’s normal to be late to school or work and blame it on being stuck behind a horse and buggy the whole way.

Kimberly Saginario

I used to design for Lilly Pulitzer 😄 and agree this is a coverup in a knock off Lilly print. 😉

Deja Bleu

I wanna hear more about Poodles housekeeper.....👀❤️😀🤩😱😹🍽️🤤

Julianne

Ali, I started watching season 7 (never watched before) thinking the boys would cover something from the new season. Ended up bingeing the whole thing. Now going back to season one and playing through. Why do these boys always get me hooked on trash!?

Caroline Dickie

I went to a very preppy private school in Greenwich, CT for middle school and Lily Pulitzer dresses were SUPER popular when I was in 6th or 7th grade, mid to late 90s. I went to a really preppy college in CT and there were a few girls wearing them there too

Mary

It’s not Dutch!! It’s German (Deutsch).

Victoria

I appreciate you choosing an episode that’s available on D+!

Tara Stigall

I don't think you guys have ever covered a Mama June show. Would you please consider covering one for a bi-curious while LALU is on break???

Colette Korber

Danny is x Amish. Then he became an Amish taxi driver. He drank a thing of bleach when he was little and it almost killed him but did permanent damage. You have to watch them all. It's so good
