Poods, I’m with you on MOriah. I had such hope for her. I honestly think if she could meet a good guy that was secularish, it might bring her back to center a bit. I would say a good friend, male, non-binary or female, but I can tell she puts much of her validation in what a man thinks of her. She’s delicate and I don’t fault her for that, but I thought she could see her parents for who they were. I don’t expect her to dis own them, but to see that their beliefs are damaging. I guess more on Papa Plath, who is an awful person, that has allowed religious dogma to cause so much damage. Mama Plath has for sure, but seems to be back peddling a bit. Unfortunately, the damage is done. The shaming starts the day each kid is born.

My stepson was 5 when his dad and I started dating. My husband introduced me as a friend and let my stepson take the lead on how much he wanted to spend time with me. For the first few years, I was never a parent figure, only a friend and trusted adult. I developed a secure attachment with him and then slowly started to contribute to his parenting. He is 11 now and the sweetest kid. I'll let you know how things are in 10-20 years 🤞🤞

I think what I haven’t seen yet in this discussion on Moriah is how thoroughly evangelicals romanticize the “prodigal son” narrative. Getting baptized once is the baseline. Getting baptized a second time, because you became “of the world” and then returned to the faith is the ideal. For someone struggling to understand herself who is desperate for approval, this push and pull is so intoxicating, especially for a dopamine-seeker. I think Moriah is going to maintain this pattern for the rest of her life without some deep trauma therapy and potentially tools for recovery.

I get if you think it’s overall weird but idk what Isaac being 17 has to do with it being weird. The dude is like 50. Like, let’s reserve pointing out issues with minors when the minor is actually in harm’s way, otherwise it’s a reach in my opinion.
