I will preface this as I am a mixed race woman (half black/half white) who had a non involved dad growing up. For years I was angry with him because I saw him take some of my siblings (I am the youngest of 16 kids he had) but I would only see him every 3-5 years. I thought I wasn’t good enough like AD said numerous times. When I became an adult, I had a chance to talk to him about it and he explained, “I knew you were safe with your mom and I was not in a good place to be with you. I took the other kids because I worried about them since their moms were on drugs and in/out of jail, I knew I didn’t have to worry about you. I never wanted my issues to stop you from being successful. I regret not being there more and not sending more money, but I never loved you any less and your mom did an amazing job raising you.” My dad had a horrible childhood and spent most of his younger years thinking his biological mom was his sister and then ending up in foster care. He never said a bad word about my mom and always told me how amazing I was and how much I would achieve. He passed away in 2014, 2 months after he gave my husband his blessing to marry me (after my husband got my mom’s blessing first). Now that I am an adult, I am thankful that he protected me from the bad influences and his struggle with drug use. I wish Clay’s dad would have thought more about how his actions would affect him. Clay needs so much therapy.

How many cliches, trite expressions or other “word art” style sentences did Trevor speak. If you go back and listen, about 90% of his dialog was platitudes. And then here comes Clay, speaking the same way.. “Okay AD, you’re Aaaalll Day” and talking about how “suavay” his dad was. I guess someone finally told him it’s “suave” To Poodle and Matty’s point, they just speak in platitudes. No substance.

My father passed away about 8 months before my wedding so I walked myself down the aisle. I considered asking an uncle, but I didn't feel like anyone else should be given that honor. When my last bridesmaid had started walking I did find myself feeling very alone. Luckily the DJ had brought his wife to the wedding and they were close by so I asked her to stand with me for the time I had to wait for the music to change. So, I recommend to those looking to walk themselves to get a friend to stand with you until you walk.

August Wilson has the distinction of being the only playwright to write a play set in each decade of the 20th century and they all explore the African American Experience. Read them now before they’re forever banned.

I was so over Clay’s bullshit this entire season. His whole “I wanna go to therapy with you,” aspirational talk seemed so fake and paper thin it was nauseating. Then… you could see the fear all over his face when he was talking with his dad. I’m not a Clay fan now by any means but his whole persona makes so much sense now, and I realized is entire genuine for him. I hope this whole experience doesn’t put him years back in his efforts to heal

I really loved these insights on clay and his parents. I’m so lucky to have a dad who DID apologize to ME for cheating on my mother. When I was in high school was when he got caught and I hated him for so long. When I was in my 20s I told him how much I hated him for years and he cried and apologized to me. He said he didn’t know it affected me so much. Today, we have a great relationship and him and my mother are still together. Their marriage is weird but that’s their stuff lol

Does anyone remember when Clay said, in the pods, I don’t see why this necessarily has to end in marriage if we’re cool with each other and AD very quickly and astutely answered something like “I’m not going to keep dating you- that’s the whole point of the show” That’s why she said “Don’t do this” when they were at the altar and he was trying to play it off like I’m saying no but why can’t we keep dating? Because we already fucking addressed it Clay. He said afterward, he felt stupid and didn’t realize it was so serious. I believe that he genuinely thought he could get to the altar, say no, keep dating (for about 12 minutes) and then go find a basic white girl to feed his ego. From day one AD had to deliver and if she wasn’t an IG model, she needed to have money. In Clay’s mind, AD was not up to his standards.

I feel like we really lost sight of AD’s journey in the beginning and how she was the one who really bonded with Matthew and “got” him. She was so captivated by him and then when that blew up, suddenly Clay is “the one”. AD was originally going for the “good guy” with something to offer her, not the taker.

Did anyone else think it was REALLY weird that they spent the first couple episodes really building up interest in Matthew, he was basically one of the main characters, they purposely chose to include him in the final edit saying he was leaving and "going to find Amber", and then... we never see him again???? Like especially what was the point of including that final line of his, it strongly implies there's going to be some followup, like it was a hook to keep us watching to see what happens with him and/or Amber and then... nothing?? Was that a really weird editing choice, or.... I dunno, it doesn't seem like a great choice by this highly produced, edited, financially successful show.
