Sailing the Skies with my Endergirl
Chapter 6
-VB-
“Jeremy.”
Such a simple name for a cape with such an interesting story and power.
Oh, Thomas Calvert realized very quickly, just as Emily did, that the official story he gave to the PRT and the Protectorate was bullshit.
No, there was a hidden layer to “Jeremy” that went beyond just a cape. Or any more than being just a cape.
The recording of their first encounter and the way he constructed that obsidian gateway was…
It was a portal.
The man said it himself, after all.
And that also explained how the other cape, now named as “Cattleya,” might have appeared out of nowhere.
… And that was the limit to what he knew about the situation at hand.
It was time to get his pet to work.
He split the timeline.
In one timeline, he called Lisa.
In the other timeline, he ordered his mercenaries to get ready to fight soon. He had it on good authority that Jeremy and Cattleya would go on a trip around Brockton Bay.
Ring ring. Ring ring. Ri- click. “What’s up, boss?” she asked.
“I need you to look into the new capes that the PRT is currently housing. I’ve already sent the files over.”
“Sheesh. Isn’t Saturday supposed to no work day?”
“This is particularly important.”
“... Ugh, fine. I’ll do it.” Click.
He scoffed as he set his phone down. “Brat.”
The airship took off from the Rig and accelerated forward slowly. It didn’t behave like a regular airship, moving up and down and side to side along to the whims of the winds. Instead, it held course with an unerring steadiness as it made its way up north in a circle around the city.
When the ship went over the Trainyard, that’s when his mercenaries made their shots.
A dozen green plasma bolts shot out from Tinkertech rifles and slammed into the ship.
It … did nothing to the ship.
Frowning, Coil pulled up his radio. “Keep firing.”
The duo realized they were under attack and began to backtrack.
But by then, one of the mercenaries brought out a rocket launcher and fired an RPG.
The RPg wheezed as it traveled and then slammed into the bottom hull of the wooden structure, finally causing it to break in half.
Jeremy fell through the hole but then he did something.
His “wings” took on strength and moved like true wings should instead of the near decorative pieces they had appeared as up to this point.
He swooped down while his mercenaries tried to shoot him, but he moved too quickly, zigzagging across the sky as he came down at them.
When he finally slammed into them, it was a slaughter. The wings disappeared milliseconds before he made his landing and he instead now wore a full suit of dark metal.
He sliced and that was enough for a mercenary to get bisected.
What surprised Coil was Cattleya. The tall cape appeared out of nowhere and grabbed one of the mercenaries by their head and -.
C-CRACK SNAP.
Thomas shut down the timeline. He’d seen enough.
He quickly noted down what he remembered seeing in the second timeline.
Unusual tinkertech airship. Didn’t quite interact with physics correctly. Durable enough to require heavy infantry explosives to cause significant damage. Is wood the only material that can be used to make the airship?
Detachable/attachable wings. Easily switches it out with armor. Highest recorded speed was 40 miles per hour.
Dark metal armors and sword.
A wooden shield. Despite the fact that it was made out of wood, it somehow perfectly blocked close to twenty plasma bolts from his mercs’ attacks before it broke.
Bottles of red liquid. Shattered them on the ground after taking hits. Restored the injuries.
Jeremy. No change in facial expression throughout the entire fight. Fought with almost mechanical efficiency. Jumped around a lot. Jumping increased speed minutely. Strong enough strikes to bisect conventionally armored soldiers without catching or slowing down through armor, flesh, and bone. Tinker 4, Brute 5/Striker 3(?), Mover 6.
Cattleya. Brute. She had enough strength in her arms without appearing to need to change or charge up. Mover/Shaker. At least one instance of a plasma bolt striking her but she instantly teleported and reappeared without showing damage. Automatic? Is it limited to range attacks? Brute 4, Mover/Shaker 4.
He looked down at all that he had written.
It was enough.
He cleared his throat and made a call.
Minutes later, a portal opened right next to his notes and were taken from him.
Later, he was asked to gather more information.

It began with her boss’s “request.”
That’s where everything fell apart for her.
Maybe that was when I chose to stay fallen.
Lisa trembled as she tried to stop her power.
Lights. A star. A voice.
A twisted thought.
But her power was drawn in by whatever it was that thing was.
A touch. A kiss.
Her power refused to stop… but it also stopped hurting her.
A distorted dream.
But compared to what she was seeing, it would have been better if she was catatonic from pain.
Ripples. A well. A stone. A multiplying desire.
The things her power began to extrapolate… the things that laid beyond her eyes…!
A fruit.
A sin.
A holy mother.
She begged it to stop as tears streamed down her face.
I’m infected. I’m infected!
Her power … refused.
You have invaded -! And re-created me!
It showed her what “Jeremy” was.
Stepped over my body.
Showed her what that monster next to “Jeremy” was.
Found a sunny spot.
She screamed as she saw desolation. An endlessly gnawing barren world.
Curled into a ball.
A living god of creation and destruction.
Spinning out the silk.
And her power … wanted that. It was the first time her power expressed a want.
From my head to toe.
And it wasn’t giving her a choice.
Inside the warm cocoon, I …
It was changing her.
…dreamt to be like you.
She could feel it.
Though I knew there’s no undo…
Lisa Wilbourn screamed as her own power stepped over the line.
What do I have left to lose?
[dAta…!]

Jeremy looked at his computer after he had logged off for the day.
“If I used a cheat client, then would the cheats work…?”
