I was struck by how reminiscent this was of the La Llorona legend. Mom does her kids in by a body of water before expiring herself, wailing and crying all the way. One has to wonder if Luana's husband didn't fall victim to a robbery or accident, but in fact betrayed and left her and the children, just like Maria's lover.
